I think the famous lip balm is really overrated.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

search -panthenol moisturiser

destroy - dunno

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

white eagle brushless fucking shave cream

Benjamin (benjamin), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

my $80 order of this just arrived, prompting this question. (also prompting the question: why do I spend so much on little potions?) But yeah, I got the b/f the Blue Eagle for his delicate face, some more pineapple/papaya scrub for me (I Love Exfoliants), and I am excited to try the Solid Grooming Aid. Already busted into the Tea Tree Oil Toner while here at work and am pleased.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Khiels Ultramoisturizer is where it's at.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the solid grooming aid. Whenever my friends come over they all use it because they love it and can't afford it. I think the lip balm is pretty nice, but not as fantastic as it's claimed to be. My tube was free so I ain't complaining.

Mandee, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to use the silk groom on my hair when it was longer, it worked great. I'm thinking of getting another bottle now that it is getting longer again. The lip balm was pretty average.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a few items for my friend Jocelyn as a baby shower present. I got the face moisturizer for men as a gift a while back, but find it to be too thick and heavy.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

sean i like that ultra moisturizer - good for the winter but not for the summer when it feels a bit greasy.

Teeny the pinapple/papaya scrub is good but the ultimate scrubber is "under your skin" by philosophy - try it!

i'm so gay! (except im not very gay really)

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oh kiehl's blemish concealer, I think I love you but boy oh boy are you the stinkiest thing ever.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

^the original lyrics before being switched to 'but what am i so afraid of?'

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I just bought the Ultra Facial Moisturizer this afternoon! I really don't know what I was thinking paying $20 for 4 oz of goo, but she threw in a load of samples so that's cool.

Aaron a., Tuesday, 26 August 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron, where did you get it? Saks?

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Nieman's at Northpark.

Aaron A., Wednesday, 27 August 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

silk groom is awesome because it smells like something an old man would wear - so u know it works

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The earth scrub thing and the ultra facial moisturiser are ok, I got a bit sick of em though and now I'm using Philosophy, which feels like it's doing good tingly things to my skin.

too much for my mirror (too much for my mirror), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I love silk groom. Creme de corps is also good but looks a little too much like custard.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i agree about philosophy being better - its even more expensive though!

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

search: shine n' lite groom is great for fine yet thick frizzy hair (like mine!). herbal toner with berries -- works great, leaves skin soft and smells wonderful!
destroy: rare-earth oatmeal milk facial cleanser #1 & #2 -- i have v. oily skin, and these both just made it worse!

curtie slade (curtie), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

fine yet thick frizzy hair

huh? confused!

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

fine strands, thickly planted on the scalp I'm sure.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got tons of hair, but it's all babyfine and flyaway.

curtie slade (curtie), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

your doing better than me - mine is wiry curls - a jewfro. and its going vey vey grey.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

this is what happens when you mix mexican + polish genes. aieee!

curtie slade (curtie), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Calendula toner, man. It makes my face a happy face.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My new love is L'Occitaine! The lavender cream gel for the face is wonderbar; I am really picky about moisturizers and how they grease up my face. I prefer the varieties that are fast-absorbing.

Mandee, Wednesday, 27 August 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

even though i am actually a worshipper at the shrine of mario badescu, i love kiehl's avocado eye cream. that shit is rocking the bags under my eyes.

fiofio (fiona), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i must try that eye cream.

im nicely surprised by the number of guys posting on this thread.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
http://www1.burtsbees.com/wcsstore/BurtsBees/images/094.jpg

This is better than any lotion, including my formerly beloved Creme de Corps.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Burt's Bees is the bomb. I'm actually headed out (to Bloomingfoods) in a couple minutes to get more Burt's Bees stuff -- their aftershave lotion stuff is the only aftershave lotion (as opposed to splashy stingy alcohol wakeup juice, which I usually prefer) I like. And whatever soap it is that comes with the men's grooming set -- exfoliant soap, maybe? -- is incredible at washing food smells like oranges, lemons, garlic, onion, olives, etc., from your hands.

(I don't think that's what it's meant for, though).

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 November 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so not a lotion person.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 November 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

the bay soap tep? That stuff is great.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that's it -- it's brown and got, you know, exfoliaty bits in it like the St Ives apricot scrub stuff. It has magical clean-whatever-it-touches-instantly powers.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, I didn't know it did that for food smells; will have to pick some up when I replenish my oil supply.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

burt's bees is good, yes... but not better than kiehl's! i was about to list the products i used, but thought better of it. if you looked at my bathroom, you would think i was a 40yr old woman with a yorkie in a vuitton carrying case.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to Kiehl's: The solid grooming aid is not quite as exciting as I had hoped. I use it sparingly to smooth down the flyaways, but it's really pretty heavy for my hair. The blemish concealer is godlike. The papaya/pineapple scrub is great, but more for its chemical exfoliating than its scrub exfoliating properties. Follow with the lovely Tea Tree Toner. I have a tub of some deep conditioning hoo ha that's great too. I don't use the rare earth face masque very much but it's nice to have. Probably won't replace when I run out. I had some shampoo samples but they didn't really do much for me.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

and lauren, are you talking about burt's lip balm vs kiehl's lip balm? I love Kiehl's stuff in general but Burt's is seriously the best.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i like palmer's better than burt's bees... but i think i'm more like spencer in the end.

i like the little samples but i could never just out and buy the stuff.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

no, just in general. i think kiehl's lip balm is their one overrated product. burt's is good, but my current favorite is made by moulton-brown, with the elizabeth arden eight hour cream stick running a close second.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like the lip balm.

If you can get it in sample form, the lycopene cream is the BOMB - otherwise I think it costs £35 or so over here. But I have here in my hand a tub of Panthenol Protein Moisturising Face Cream (enriched with vitamins A&E and beta-carotene) which works brilliantly and lasts ages so it is worth the money (to make it last, put on face the second you towel off from bathing/showering and use damp hands). The moisture masque thing is really good on trans-Atlantic flights.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

the lycopene moisturizer is amazing. the cost is a yikes, although less in the states than in the uk - $35. kiehl's prices in the uk kind of shocked me, as everything was the same but in pounds, and i hadn't seen that much of a discrepancy before.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

prices for just loads of things in the UK seem to be the same but in pounds, which is annoying and deceitful. England, please make things cheaper, please.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for the moisturizer tips! I've been using Murad for my face but maybe will try the lycopene next time I get a sample opportunity.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Doesn't anyone use St. Ives anymore?

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I use a St. Ives facial scrub lots of days but I think it makes me break out (I have the medicated kind so you would think it wouldn't). Good and cheap.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Note: I was half a second away from typing "St. Ides," and had to think "Which is lotion, which is malt liquor?" Scary.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing like kickin' back with a 40 of st.ives vanilla body lotion.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

haha. St. Ives reminds me of high school too much, I guess.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren, do you squirt some out for your dead skin cells?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Smoothness

http://www.40ozmaltliquor.com/stidesprem.jpg

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

but of course, gygax!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

St. Ides, on the other hand, reminds me of right now.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"St Ides" by WU TANG CLAN

[Method]
Oh yeah, comin through with my Shaolin crew
Two cent for a case, gimme St. Ide's brew
In the midst of broken bottles and crushed up cans
Methtical's in a jam on how dry I am

[Raekwon]
... with St. Ides in my system
crack another I'm blitzed, let's go hit the next one
Hang it over, the object is to stay sober
Lay on the sofa, better yet, dial my chauffeur

[Ghostface]
Who's the Wallabee kid, stressed out, could never be Son
Ricochet daily hit the deli for a cold one
Naturally blessed, yes, my rap is like a laser beam
that blow between the bushes, St. Ide's and I the king of teams

[U-God]
Crack the bottle of the St. Ide's, sippin to those
Who don't realize that drinkin ain't only to be drunk
You can't drive, keep my peoples alive
And if the saint don't know you from a can of paint

[RZA]
It was hot, on the spot, so I jetted at the block
And I asked for St. Ide's, I could tell by the dot
On the back he rebuilt it... not that charcoal filtered
Ice cold bottle tilted... to my cup he spilt it
AAAAAAAAAAH!!! ST. IDES! mmmmmmmmmmm...

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

So anyway, yeah, Kiehl's...

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

kiehl's wet groom is pretty nice! i like it better than solid

geeta (geeta), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like their bath gel -- lemon, lavender, mango, vanilla, etc. I wish I had some right now -- I use it as bubble bath.

I haven't been particularly impressed with any of their other products, though I like the medical coats that their dermatological technicians wear.

Mary Kiehl (Mary), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

oooh i forgot! kiehl's coriander bath gel is the best

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the corriander -- hopefully I will get it tomorrow.

Chutney Mary (Mary), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread has inspired me to break out my sample of Intensive Treatment and Moisturiser. Not impressed. It smells icky and it's greasy, which is okay except that it doesn't feel as moisturising-y as it should. My skin still feels dry (I have very dry skin and it gets all scritchy feeling), and it just feels like there's this thin layer of grease on top. Ugh. My hands feel really soft though.

I'm not too familiar with Kiehl's stuff and haven't played much with the samples. I really like some of the Burt's Bees stuff though.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 22 November 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
you can get everything at target now.

teeny, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

The squeezy-tubes of lip balm are gigantically overrated, it's too slippery and not waxy enough to stay in place if your lips touch ANYTHING. Mmmm for that special-occasion oil slick feel. Prefer Burt's w/ peppermint oil.

Laurel, Saturday, 3 March 2007 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

I am pro the Kiehl's lip balm because it is one of 3 lip balms I am not allergic to (others are rose salve and labello). Ugh, peppermint oil would make me get all punch bowl mouth-like. I just got a sample of the new night peel when I bought more ultra facial moisturizer and colored lip stuff. It's kind of nice although it always feels wet even though you are supposed to sleep with it on overnight.

Yerac, Saturday, 3 March 2007 23:06 (nineteen years ago)

Carey, I'm glad there are all types in this world, because I tried rose salve last year and found it chapped me worse than ever. Something about the kind of emollient in it? I don't know but WOW did it not work for me. Finally threw it out, altho I guess it made an okay cuticle cream.

Laurel, Saturday, 3 March 2007 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

[i]you can get everything at target now.[i]
not all targets, I don't think. not here anyway. this must be a regional thing, like when they were carrying boots products in colorado or something a few years ago

akm, Sunday, 4 March 2007 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

you have to rotate lip balms, people. if you keep using the same lip balm for too long it totally stops working. i rotate between kiehl's, aquaphor and carmex.

i have a bottle of kiehl's castille shampoo. not bad!

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:22 (nineteen years ago)

the lips balm is a bit greasy - far too shiny for the fellas too.

jed_, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

maybe you are overapplying it.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I just grew intolerant of lip stuff about 5 years ago. Even stuff I had used all my life I can't use now, or else it will look like I have psoriasis on my mouth. I remember getting a tube of Blistex and it just set it off. Blistex, Carmex or anything medicated is like kryptonite. Even Bonne Belle I found out I can't use.

Yerac, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:31 (nineteen years ago)

Dr. Pepper Bonne Belle I will miss you.

Yerac, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

Kiehls has something like 30 new products out or coming out. It's insane. I was trying to coerce the saleswoman into giving me more samples by mentioning how many new products there seemed to be all of a sudden and instead she gave me a whole la de di about the launch of new products.

I need a new eye cream. I seem to remember someone being obsessed with eye creams.

Yerac, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:41 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.bedandbathstore.com/shop/thumb/bath-accessories/115112/bbs-home-bag-balm.jpg

i like the kiehl's aftershave, tho

mookieproof, Sunday, 4 March 2007 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

Bag Balm!?

jed_, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:16 (nineteen years ago)

i can't have my bags getting chafed, yo

mookieproof, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

very wise.

i used to work next door to space NK and the women in there would give me staff discount on Kiehls. now i can't afford it.

jed_, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:24 (nineteen years ago)

samples are free

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 4 March 2007 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

i will have to go to the kiehls shop in georgetown to investigate. i wanted to try all these skin brightening things they have but so far no samples available

daria-g, Sunday, 4 March 2007 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

everytime i go to the kiehl's shop i walk out with 2 weeks worth of samples

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 4 March 2007 03:26 (nineteen years ago)

their stuff is grate

mitya, Sunday, 4 March 2007 07:18 (nineteen years ago)

recently bought the rosewater toner for oily skin and the moisturizer for oily skin. like both a lot, especially the moisturizer.

get bent, Sunday, 4 March 2007 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

i used to love kiehl's creme de corps, but i got some a while back and it seemed like it was different. the staff denied this, so perhaps it's me that's changed. in any case, i didn't like it nearly as much, and then as a final insult the bottle burst open in my hand luggage on a flight to la and ruined a dress and two shirts. lately i've been using nivea smooth sensation. it's wonderful, really absorbent and emollient and not stinky or greasy at all. i just got the overnight body creme and am likewise delighted.

lauren, Sunday, 4 March 2007 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.kiehls.com/img/labels/lab_589.gif

TOMBOT, Sunday, 4 March 2007 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

I've taken to using the dermabrasion scrub which I LOVE. I think a good 50%-60% of my products came from Kiehl's though these days. I also like their lip balm, especially now that they have an SPF 15 version, but I do see the "too slippery" comment (I apply lip balm constantly all day so it doesn't really matter to me if it comes off easily, I would be putting it on over and over again regardless).

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 4 March 2007 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

the bottle burst open in my hand luggage on a flight to la and ruined a dress

two thoughts: (a) how did you sneak a liquid into your hand luggage? and (b) lol insert easy monica lewinsky joek here.

get bent, Sunday, 4 March 2007 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

regarding a) - total error on the part of security. i had some stuff in a big carry-on that i meant to transfer to a checked bag, but never got around to it.

lauren, Monday, 5 March 2007 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

can we go back to teeny's declaration that this is all at target now?

akm, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

it was! it looked like they had just put it on the shelf, like they hadn't tidyed up the presentation yet. I haven't seen any other reports of this though so maybe it is a test market thing like you were saying. Dunno why they would test my market, this isn't exactly a ritzy area.

teeny, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 00:45 (nineteen years ago)

they carry a whole line of kiehl's stuff at my campus bookstore. god, i remember when it was just the one new york store and people would make pilgrimages from ALL OVER.

get bent, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

40 dollar bottle of lotion for xmas is a HUGE DUD

artdamages, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 07:44 (nineteen years ago)

it's been at Barney's for a very long time, too. but yeah i remember the exclusivity of it. Saturday at the 3rd Ave. shop was impossible, like a rock concert or something. it probably still is.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah locally here in the midwest you can already get it at the neiman marcus counter. The 3rd ave shop samples are huge compared to the ones I've gotten elsewhere. I'm thinking no samples at Target. ;)

teeny, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

I've yet to see this at Target. boo.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

yeah those sample bottles have lasted me like 6 weeks before!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

[i]they carry a whole line of kiehl's stuff at my campus bookstore. god, i remember when it was just the one new york store and people would make pilgrimages from ALL OVER.

get bent [i]

This what happens when British people go to the US. "And you'll be going to Kiehls? Won't you? Could you get me..." "Oooh New York. Will you be going to Kiehls?"

I couldn't last time because of the mad liquid restrictions. But once you've bought it at US prices it just seems wrong to shell out ofr it over here.

Anna, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

granted, i only shower like twice a year, so.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:16 (nineteen years ago)
