I have an uncanny knack for making people irate. Doesnt bother me. I think it's good. Passion and all that.
, posted on the Lee Mavers thread, just puts in a nutshell, the mentality of a whole breed of asshole. That's his idea of passion? I don't know where to even fucking begin. So I won't.
― Nick, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
Attack people personally under the guise of "playing devils advocate", insult other peoples taste in music left and right but get offended if anyone counters by spitting on his holy cows, and then *wonders* why people dislike him. The best bit about DP is his whole "what did I do wrong?" attitude when things go completely awry. This is ultimately probably the most frustrating thing about him, but when viewed from a distance, probably also the *funniest*.
I was intrigued that when I dived in for an actual fight, he wasn't up for it at all, became Mr Calm'n'reflective. And also that Kate thought I'd been ruder than she ever was to him, when I was just mildly pissed at him dissing my friend. Even though, on reflection, she's one of the most confrontational people I know (and all the better for it).
So: Within the context of enjoying this board: CLASSIC In the wider world: DUD
― chris, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
So what draws him back, again and again and again? He's like a 7-year-old who likes a girl in his class, doesn't know how to say this, so PUNCHES HER IN THE FACE! We should actually be flattered. *shrugs* *eyes turn up in head* *breath leaves body*

Chris, you are coming in somewhat late, and missing most of the back story. Yes, I am a somewhat confrontational person, but I do try to back up all my confrontational bluff and bluster against the opinions expressed by people, with a fundamental respect for the people expressing said opinions.
Started on another thread, not even sure if it was the Strokes or the Poptones thread (he manages to drag McGee into every thread ever- hence, why I think your post was so damned effective, Mark) - he was being a confrontational bastard in his usual style, so I gave him some confrontation right back.
Instead of replying to my opinions and the views expressed therein- he launched back with a huge, massive, completely out of proportion blatant personal attack against me as a person, my band, my lifestyle, everything else. Clearly he had obviously gone out and RESEARCHED me, because he started bringing stuff up off personal and band webpages that I had never mentioned on this board. *THAT* bothered me.
I stopped engaging him, fearing a stalker type situation, and he escalated until it got to the point where his posts were so clearly personal and inflamatory that the Administrators of the board stepped in and deleted them.
Now he's just a stupid irritant, too much of a gnat to really bother anyone, but at the time, it really bothered me, his semi-stalker approach. Anyway, I think Mark is probably right about his whole attitude towards this board.
And of course to point out that we are sad and bitter...

Anyway, kids, he's BAAA-AAACK!!! It really is like watching a carcrash, you just can't look away. Here's his latest random attack on someone who was actually just asking a reasonable request for more information on an artist who happened to be on Poptones.
This is better than Jerry Springer!
Except I really have to go and figure out where the Strange Fruit massive are all meeting up for Belle and Sebastian tonight.
John Major is still PM, isn't he?
― David Raposa, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
2. doompatrol sucks.
3. BUT I DID have a soft spot for the absurd and hyperactive neuromancer@antisocial.com, esp. when he was accused of being confrontational and changed his name to HEYBUDDY. Just thinking about that name change makes me chuckle.

You know, it's actually kinda fun engaging doompatrol on his own level. There's a lot to be said for acting like Beavis & Butthead on a limited scale if you get to go home and have a brain at the end of it. Poor DP, who actually has to live inside his deluded, crazed worldview.
I note he hasn't yet quite got it up to return to the McG**'s c*ck discussion. It wasn't what I said, exactly, or Colin: it was something *he* himself said, I think... Maybe we should just link a thread back to it whenever he gets TOO up himself?
Anyway, I'm off to Belle and Suckasstian. Pity me. Paul has just messaged to say that he won't be making it. ARRGGHHH!!! So I am stuck going to see a band I loathe BY MYSELF, while my favourite band on earth are playing across town. Typical!
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
I encourage Tom Ewing to delete this thread.
Prob here is that we are some of us, I think, a bit afraid of DoomTroll. Not afraid that he'll harm or damage us or anything like that, but that he maybe has the whatever quite to sour something we like. And we have the right (on ILE) to look into that, I think. We are actually nicer to him here — if you can believe this — than some of us have been to his, well, obviously not face, but screen- identity. Might he find his way here? Spose so. Speak Tash's name and Tash will come.

Make your choice, adventurous stranger; Strike the bell and bide the danger, Or wonder till it drives you mad, What would have happened if you had.
I have toyed with the idea that he doesn't exist in human form: that he's the online manifestation of the dark side of ILM's collective net geekiness, aggression, boredom, loneliness, music-obsession etc etc — bit like the loa in W.Gibson.
Except frightened of AMc's penis.

(Note totally pitiful * attempt to prevent him googling and jaunting...)
Erm... wait, this isn't about DP at all, it's about B&S now.
I think the reason that Colin started this thread was because we were already discussing DP on every other thread, and he wanted us to get back to talking about pubs, the weather and builders on the other threads, and keep our bitching here. It's clearly something that affected a lot of us, so, mean or not, it is still a meta-question perfectly valid to the forum.
Anyway... I really feel sorry for Stuart M. He has ginger eyelashes for fucks sake. And he's still a crap soundman. But he was much lovelier this time, and didn't kick us out of soundcheck or yell at us. I just wish he'd given my pen back. Sigh.

Good god, I still just can't BELIEVE that he actually read over 4000 messages on the Lollies list. I mean, I can believe that he would put together his bizarre story about me and Alan McGee from the few references there have been to Radio4 and why we didn't play it... but what amazes me if the fact that that stuff was never ON the website. He clearly had to sub up to the Lollies list (and not the news list, but the actual gossip list which requires admin approval, as well) and read through at least 2000 posts to get that stuff. (considering the McGee incident happened back in November)
I'm really not sure whether I should be flattered at his dedication, or quite frankly scared at his obssessive stalkerdom. Paul often does bizniz with Poptones- I'm very tempted to have him ask McGee is Doompatrol is just stalking him.
Good god, I'm hungover from Sussed, I've got to go back to bed.

do you think I really care? I was just having fun! christ. I really do mean it.
I think society places pressure, undo pressure on body shapes and sizes when that is what makes the world interesting.
I used to be really fat until I did alot of amphetimine in my youth.
So, honestly, forget what I said. I just like the word fatty. You can't talk that away from me!
Just thought DG would insult me back.....gawd! *lapsed catholic guilt*
