Labor Day Weekend!

It's the first weekend I've had in a month and it's a three-day weekend! The nice people at Tanqueray sent me a free bottle of their stuff! I just went out and bought yummy bread and cheeses and cookie dough and wine. I'll be spending the weekend eating and drinking and fooling around with my boy; it'll be a proper indulgent sensualist weekend.

Also I plan to knit legwarmers. Tell me about your weekend!

okay, fine, getting free booze in the mail is hard to beat. Didn't mean to wave a big ol' juniper dick in everyone's face.

I actually just fixated on that cause ... it's free gin!

My weekend is uneventful. I don't have Labor Day off, and not for the usual reasons but because classes start on Monday. I'm annoyed about that since the offices are still closed, which means it'll be Tuesday before I can even find out why my fee waiver hasn't been processed yet, and my Tuesdays are packed with five classes as it is, which doesn't leave much bullshit room. They've already fucked up my paycheck by a month, I'm tempted to call in "Yeah, I'm not working until you actually pay me." That wouldn't be fair to the professor, though, which is always the dilemma in academia.

Today I splurged a little credit card money and have been trying to get my ass in gear to work. Making chicken tonight. No idea what I'm doing tomorrow, but hopefully work.

Oooh, but I splurged some other credit card money on four year old cheddar, so that's good.

Tomorrow I head down to the Outer Banks for a week at the beach. A week with my family and without Internet access...will I go completely mentalist?

(In past years I've managed to survive. ;^} )

last night I was gonna go to the FAP or whatever it was (was anyone there?) or maybe go out with my friend who just moved back to town or both but then i started listening to records at virgin on the way back from work and oh wow i guess i do like audio bullys etc. etc. until late night phone call wakes me from my listening station reverie and i'm not very clean and forgot to eat dinner and am wearing my suit instead of my camp (well, "summer expedition"; i never went to real camp) shirt so intead of FAP i go home to too much food and bed.

today, i laze about and plan all of the things i will do this late-summer/fall - swimming! tennis lessons! ballroom dance! as if! - and watch a bit of tennis and do some cleaning and decide it's time to get a maid or friend to help out with same. then, go to parents' place and have dinner (black cod in copied-from-Tom-Douglas asian sauce with fennel and squash and rice and New Zealand white grape blend with my real name in the title and raspberries and berry sorbet and cookies) and watch more tennis and ogle new IKEA catalog and come home and mentally rearrange apartment and - arg - vacuum and there you have it.

tomorrow I work and hopefully clean more. Monday I work more and then early afternoon eat my way out to Queens and US Open!!

Oh the heavens fear the wrath I shall hath wrought upon my yard upon the sun setting on morrow's eve...

I'm in NJ this weekend- I just baked some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Yesterday I climbed the magnolia tree in our front yard, and got my knee caught between two branches when I slipped on the way down. Ouch. Also today my sister & I took my 2 month old neice to Saks & Bloomingdales for the first time- we're starting her early, I guess. Actually, we could barely turn around without people wanting to see her cute red hair, so not much shopping was done. I did manage to get a Custo Barcelona tshirt, and my neice got a sundress.

I went to get new knitting needles and on the way back I saw a guy and a lady walking with a dog on the side of the highway and the guy had an ENORMOUS PARROT on his arm. It was seriously three feet long from beak to tail. WTF?

I didn't know where else to put this story. I've had a nice weekend.

eleven months pass...
IT'S THIS WEEKEND! I just realized this . . . now the pressure to *do* something with the extra day. But what?

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay. Just spoke with the b/f . . . the idea is to take a small trip somewhere, no farther than a 5 hour drive from chicago (and i'd prefer less than that). A place that wouldn't be too spendy, we can ride bikes . . . kick back. Suggestions?

Cleaning of old apartment yesterday morning and then the Bumbershoot festival all the rest of the day + dinner w/ the higgs/rrrrickey aka timi yuro/mmatos then the final actual cleaning of said old apartment again this morning until nearly 2 pm which destroyed the last bit of gumption I had. So sitting around doing weird bits and pieces of organizing in new place and reading Dexter in the Dark and anticipating dinner of various Salumi salume, cake, and my last bottle of 1994 The Black Queen (sparkling shiraz from Peter Lehmann). Because it is also our 5th wedding anniversary today. More Bumbershoot tomorrow, after dim sum with friend who is up from Portland. Possibly meeting up with friend who is visiting from Atlanta for the weekend. Busy busy-ness.

Very low key today, but yesterday was busy enough. Tomorrow I actually work! But I don't mind, I don't have to come in until later in the morning and there's a couple of good benefits to working the shift -- comp time *and* time and a half. It'll be so quiet at work I'll get a lot of fall quarter stuff out of the way so I don't have to think about it later.
