ILE Thread Revival Day

Here's an idea.

Recently I've been doing some categorising (the struggle continues) and there are a lot of old threads which guttered out before their time. So what I'd suggest over the next 24 hours is that every regular dips into the archives and find a thread to revive. Come on, people! Those threads need you!

Tom, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For obvious reasons, f'r instance, pretty much every thread started between the 8th and 10th September came to a sudden stop.

Tom, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And you can start your answers "ILE THREAD REVIVAL DAY" if you like too, just so everybody can see what a fine communitarian you are.

Tom, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom, you're in marketing -- why call them "old threads"? You need to re-brand them as "vintage threads" to give them more allure.

Nicole, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nicole should you ever be looking for a new job we would be happy to have you.

A range of thread brandings could be introduced - "Vintage", "Ol' Timers", "Cult Classics"....."Dave Q Presents: X-Treme ILE" maybe...

Tom, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What about 'ILE Gold', a la Capital Gold and UK Gold? Or is that just too hoary?

Will McKenzie, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh dear - this is like 'I Love I Love Everything' whereby threads get revived and we all have to sit around chuckling doing all that 'what were we on' schtick.

Revive!

I recently learned that in some corners of the internet, thread revivals are called "necros" as in "necro thread". Depending on the forum, users may have strongly negative opinions about necro posts, and in some cases you can be banned. A little research shows me that this attitude seems to be most prevalent on video game boards, which I don't care about at all, but that's not where I caught wind of it.

I also started checking out reddit recently and they archive posts, which locks them for comments, after a few months.

I'm never leaving ilx. Everybody else is deeply fucked in the head.

how's life, Saturday, 6 February 2016 13:07 (nine years ago)

yeah, you'd never get banned for reviving an old thread here
