i mean clothes that are above any fashion shape or trend that are not old skool or next skool but are just skool. and if they exists what do they look like. would you wear them. like suits that are neither broad shouldered or whatever buttoned. or dress shirts that are simply dress shirts?

so putting the whole bra in a nutshell: timeless clothes, classic or dull?

Erik, Monday, 1 September 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, and they were all made in 1965 ;-)

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i think a good old pair of leather shoes is pretty timeless.

did u mean to type "bra in a nutshell"?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Nutshell bras are timeless.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

as worn by dryads, presumably.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, "timeless" as in "always inoffesive" (never looking dated) or "timeless" as in "always classic"? I tend to wear what I hope are timeless clothes in the first sense, and rarely feel up to finding timeless clothes in the second sense. I try to look anonymous, generic, and dull; I admit it would be nice to look this way while also looking classy and dashing, but outside of the occasional sweatervest I am too interested in not having to think about what I'm wearing to really pull it off.

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

clothes worn professionally in offices tend to be the most timeless.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

How about clothes worn to surf the interweb?

Aaron A., Monday, 1 September 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously it's a CONTINUUM, but I've always gone for the more timelessy look, such that I don't really have any embarrassing 80s pictures I can show anyone. Actually it's only in the last few years that I've started coming to terms with the dominant 80s aesthetic, in all fields, not just clothing.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have wardrobes of clothes that I have been wearing on and off for years. I think you can carry off certain clothes given a certain attitude to clothes, a decent hairstyle and a good understanding of what suits your body type. I recently found a coat I wore when I was 14 that still fits as a jacket and makes me look cute as a button. Honest.

the cholo look of pressed khakis or dark blue dickies, black hi-top chuck taylors & clean white t or pendelton-style plaid shirt has been rocked pretty steadily since the 40's.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

for me, anything that Bryan Ferry wore is timeless, usually because he wore them out of their time, but also because he's the coolest guy ever.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

mentioned in concert with other items, but here they fly solo:
Chuck Taylors. Hi-top or low.

Honorable mention - plain, black 8-eye Doc Marten boots.

The white suit as worn by the man in the white suit in the film theman in the white suit fulfills this definition to a tee. Never wears out you know. Never gets dirty.

Tis a pity it is white.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the suit in "tokyo drifter" deserves a best supporting actor lifetime achievement award.

I 3rd the little black dress. In other news I am thinking of buying a button-through dress, like a nurses smock. It is cream with pale brown pockets, collar and cuffs. Will this work? (the only thing I am dubious of is that it's made of some early nylon fabric and may be a bit scratchy).

isadora (isadora), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

any woman who likes agnès b. clothes is absolutely ok by me, tho they're not so great for men. timeless is a good tailored suit and decent shoes, levis and a white t-shirt, black dresses for women etc... get me to savile row already!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

True - I just looked at the menswear & it was.. particular. The women's, though, you can hardly go wrong! I have a black agnès b. t-shirt & it's so well made, it'll prob still look good ten years from now. Wish I could afford a skirt or sweater, but oh well, someday. :)
