who killed rock?

it's totally gone, there aren't even any more current rock stations, there are classic rock, which is still rad, but there is no current rock period. and the bodacious bands like queensryche and def leppard and stuff are still around, but they're mostly covering their old stuff. where'd the rock go , yo? is it like outlawed? did all the teenie boppers kill it? did it get repulsed by that lesbo scene in the latest mtv awards and just call it quits?

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Good morning Ryan.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Some guy called Ronan, apparently. Next time you're in Dublin look him up. I'm sure he had a good reason tho

dave q, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It was eyeing his bird.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

morning, horace. feel a lot better. things are....how do i say it with no profanity.....things are a fecal whirlwind these days, and i can't take it anymore, but navy's helpin me. Ronan, that talk show guy? Why? the rock, man, the Rock! we needs it :)

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

whats eyeing the bird mean?

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

but even mtv's dead, it's now nothing more than craptacular reality shows. why? there are indeed more pressing subjects in todays world, but it's all the small things that make life pleasurable, ya know? and for the sarcastic s.o.bs out there, please don't afiliate me with "small things", cuz i have to watch my language, or i'm liable for njp, since i'm at work.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh shit. I thought this a thread about that movie where some guy who briefly played Canadian Football plays some dude who travels to South American to make incredibly lame one-liners while punching people out.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I clicked on this and thought, I bet Dave Q will write "Ronan".

It's like a dance sympathy for the devil with lyrics about how I was the one telling Oasis to go ahead and make another album, or telling Jack White how to be an idiot.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

WHO KILLED ROCK!?!?
http://www.tappi.org/paperu/news/images/paper.jpg

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

if rock was this easily killed it must have been way weak in the first place

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

paper was avenging the death of scissors, his kid brother.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

what a tragic story

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm not dead--I just get paid more in Hollywood, don't have to get beat up every night, and I don't have to listen to Vince McMahon anymore."

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

he was killed in hand to hand combat.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you kingfish, I was going to be dissappointed if someone didn't do that.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

glad to oblige.

i tend to go for the obvious jokes since i'm lazy.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

so did you read that triple h is having trouble breaking into hollywood? apparently no one knows who he is. FEIGN SHOCK NOW

maura (maura), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

haw haw. suck on that, levesque!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Maura has made me the happiest man I've been for a long time.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I reckon Chris Jericho has more star quality, I'd cast him as a villian in the next Jackie Chan movie.

Rock's not dead, btw.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

If they ever made a film version of Family Matters, I'd like to see Triple H as Eddie and The Hardy Boyz (a la the Olson Twins) as Urkel.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i killed rock.
i am responsible for everything, including Milli Vanilli.
i did it all myself.

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

wanna see some fun? go find the page for Jeff Hardy's band, called Peroxwhy?gen.

Shannon Moore is in the band, too, credited with "Programming". Great! sub-Orgy rock!

http://www.peroxwhygen.com/basement1_wm.jpg

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i aim to please!

jericho and angle, after all this time, still have the most charisma. they are STAHS -- even when you're hating them, you're loving them, you know?

i think that randy orton has potential, and then uh ...

maura (maura), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

They should have never have cut Kane's hair, I have hardly watched WWE since it happened.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan you should probably listen to the new Darkness and Andrew WK albums

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It was Colonel Plum, in the Kitchen, with the battery-operated sexual device

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

and the new Helloween album, it's great!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

or maybe it was Grand Master Mustard...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock committed suicide after realizing it contained the band creed.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll have to give them a try. i do like the new queensryche album. i heard something way, way bogus. there is nothing wrong with country, but some artist redid stairway, which sounds horrendously craptacular. i mean, darn, it's Stairway, man, nobody in their right mind would dare mess with a classic such as this. oh well, i just gotta remember never to turn the radio on again. thank god i got all the classics, which people say makes me outdated, but up theirs, they can have their sucktastic music these days, and i'll still be bangin my head to the ole iron maiden.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

creed is rock? i won't say anything negative about them, but i never considered them rock, i gave them a craptacular category of their own.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I am severely disappointed that I came into this thread with a fantastic joke and NICKALICIOUS THE JOKE-STEALING BABY-EATER had already posted it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

zing!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

baby eater? i prefer my baby sandwiches on italian roasted subs with a dash of sweet onion sauce.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

imagine seeing one of Those subs at subway;) i'd eat it.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

damn, i'm hungry now ,.....oh, well, thank god i work by a nursery;)that's a joke, cuz i'm some bleeding heart conservative'll be all in an uprage if i don't clarify.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Alice Cooper killed rock the first time. The Ramones rescucitated it. Then the gaunt reanimated corpse slowly died of ination.

Aimless, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly, my fingers know more intersting ways to spell a word than my brain does.

Aimless, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

naw, alice cooper never killed rock, cuz that was back when rock was still rock. i think.........rush did it (the band, not "my favorite individual in the world" voicing such "positive statements on everything"). i'm sorry, but rush sucks. god, if i hear tom sawyer one more bloody time, i'm gunna puke on my keyboard:)

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

God I wish I had Tom Sawyer on midi.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

...or a ring tone.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

STOP ME BEFORE I KILL ROCK AGAIN!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

So this is a new plot like the "Who ran over Stone Cold?" one, yes?

I'd give Triple H a movie role, were I a movie producer! I always thought he was the best dramatic actor in the WWF, and has a great body. He'd make a great movie villain - he has that mean look.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

like his bod, eh, martin? sorry, bud, i'm just jokin :)

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Look, there's only one true actor in WWE, and that's Mr Monday Night himself, Rob Van Dam. I mean, has any actor ever assembled a more impressive filmography than him, featuring such all-time greats as Black Mask 2: City of Masks, Bloodmoon, and Superfights.

Booker T says he intends to step down from pro-wrestling within the next few years to switch to an acting career. I think he's got the best chance of any of the current roster of doing such. (Good to see DDP's Hollywood career in full swing though, huh?)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa, we went from rock to The Rock, guess i gotta define my thread better, eh? ;)oops, just farted in my office again.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan, this is about your eighth feebly homophobic comment since you got here. They're outnumbering the racist comments comfortably now.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"Tom Sawyer" fucking rocks, for god's sake!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

but not as much as "Xanadu" or "Spirit of Radio"

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

IT WAS JUST A FRIGGIN JOKE. WHY, ARE YOU FEELIN INSECURE ABOUT YOURSELF? AS I SADI BEFORE, IT WAS JUST A DARN JOKE, LIGHTEN UP. UNLESS THAT COMMENT STRIKES HOME, IN WHICH I DON'T CARE, GAY, STRAIGHT, I DON'T CARE, AS LONG AS YA LET ME JUST DO MY THING. SINCE WHEN DID EVERYONE BECOME SO DAMN SENSETIVE.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I MEAN SHIT, LONE WOLF, SOME OF MY PAST COMMENTS HAVE BEEN BIGOTTED, BUT THIS ONE WAS JUST A LIGHTHEARTED COMMENT. I AIN'T PERSECUTING OR FRIGGIN HATING ANYONE.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

AND A LOT OF PEOPLE BASH EACH OTHER ON HERE A LOT WORSE THAN I DO. YALL TAKE ME THE WRONG WAY, AND SHIT, ANYTIME I TELL A JOKE , I ALWAYS APPOLOGIZE IF IT OFFENDED ANYONE. THAT'S WHY IT'S "FEEBLE", CUZ I WASN'T TRYING TO HATE.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm only offended by your excessive use of capital letters.

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

come back calz!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sorry, i was typing another document, and forgot to turn my caps off.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ryan's comment wasn't necessarily homophobic tho.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

You 'striking home' bit this reinforces my point. I am, as anyone who has been here a while knows, openly bisexual. You're openly an arsehole, desperately unhappy, flailing around weakly with your unthinking bigotry.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

why ya bashin me? i didn't know youre bi, cuz i don't care, i ain't bigoted, nor homophobic, you like to throw those terms around a lot. it was a simple joke, lighten up.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

But it WAS uncomfortable in that nudge-nudge locker-room way. To be seen as a "joke," it still presumes *something* about Martin's sexuality -- "Hey, bud, we're both straight here, I'm just ribbin' ya."

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i see, jay, and i Am sorry, i come from.... a certain culture, and aren't quite sure how to joke with wider and diverse cultures yet. but i'm trying;)

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And if you really are okay with homosexuality, Ryan, then why make a point of calling attention to Martin's innocuous comment in the first place?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

(Sorry -- it's just that that kind of humor is an uncomfortable reminder of high school, when I also identified as bisexual.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't have bothered on the basis of that one feeble line, it's true - it's that it's about the tenth in a series of bigotted remarks from you, and I guess I was waiting for the opportunity to confront one of them. It's one thing I don't intend to tolerate at all around here. I could do some searching to back up what I'm saying, but I guess that just extends this. I'm marking my ground here, saying that I don't intend to just quietly accept or ignore this kind of thing. I've made this point, and I don't see any reason to escalate things further now. I'll now leave quietly and I hope Ryan will try to avoid this kind of thing in future, and I will have no incentive to start another fight.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

:)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

well, jay, i am ok with it, ya see, i come from a small country town in ohio, and i get a lot "ya can't joke like that in todays society outside your little redneck town, cuz people mistake things ya say". i've said enough, but i will tell ya martin, i am sorry, and i'll watch my fingers better from now on.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

damn, i can't go anywhere without pissin someone off, intentionally or not.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

OK Ryan, apology happily accepted. I hope you understand this isn't just some PC thing - as Jay says, it is rather part of a whole nasty system of oppression, and it makes a lot of people feel bad, even though you didn't mean it that way. I am old and tough and not easily upset, but I am determined to challenge this kind of thing.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

not a really popular guy round here, am i? guess it's not a wise idea making comments when my thought process is still fogged up from my epilepsy medication. guess i should stay out of here, do my job, and wait til i get discharged to go back to my little redneckish town. well, people, it was nice chattin with ya, have bodacious lives.

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 3 September 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I am amused that no one has waded in to defend bands like the White Stripes or the Vines.

Heh heh.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 3 September 2003 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i hear that the vid for "I just Don't Know What to Do..." is fun

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 September 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Glad to see that the homophobia accusations have receded to allow the discussion of oiled up, nigh-nakked men grappling one another. ¡Muy macho!
