i got one on each forearm, one that covers my right bicep, and two smaller emblems covering my left bicep, and my nickname on my back, ya think that's too much? i Am a Sailor, after all, we're supposed to drink, smoke, shag, and have tattoos. that was a joke, i hope i didn't offend any of my present or retired shipmates out there:)

My dad was in the Navy and he doesn't have any tattoos.

Mine was too, and he doesn't, either. I, however, have 6.

So far.

my dad was in the navy for 27 years and has none - i have 2 and he went berserk when i had my first one done!

My grandfather has zero.

I'm amazed at the number of people getting neck and facial tattoos now. Forget all the social acceptance and work-related issues, that shit's gonna sag when you get old.

true, true, and, as i said, i hope i didn't offend or stereo type anyone, it as just a joke. i'll tell ya, some people round here, ya make a slight joke, and they go ape shit. people expect freedom of speech, but when you use it, and it's not too flattering, they bitch, not talking about any of you people, but shit, ya know?

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

what the hell are you on about?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

speaking of shit sagging, I saw a 20-something girl today in a coffeeshop with a tattoo'd ring thing around her belly. What if she doesn't have such a slender tum when she's 55?

Also, my Great Uncle Hank was in the Navy in WW2 and has a few tattoos. Now they're mostly blurry blobs (but once were skulls and eagles and such). He told me once "Tattoos are for assholes."

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on where and how big they are. I'd say if I can see more than two when you're fully clothed, that's too much.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm following ya, thank you

ryan t, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

though i guess i'm doin good, fully clothed, none are visible, in t-shirt, only two are visible, and because of my ailments, i don't have to worry about what they'll look like when i'm old.

I' d say when when you start realise you have duplicates, or you start regretting them. As for people in the forces with Tatts, my dad was both Navy and Armed forces and has none. My mom was Armed forces and has one(But that's cause she was dating an american sailor at the time who had I belive 20). Both my sister and I both have followed mom's foot step's. Umm... with getting Tattoo's I mean.

I like it when rylum (or cayan?) slips out of his character's diction, occasionally. ;)

two years pass...
i work in a place with many service men and ladies, most of the ones i've met do have tattoo's, and the thing is the one's who got them for an actual reason still love them and would never get rid of them. but unlike some people i have tattoo's and i'm in a highly paid goverment job where people don't even realise that i have 7, one of which takes up my entire thigh. So i don't think you can judge people that have tattoo's weather there in the service or not, theres worse people who don't have tattoo's. At with the whole "what happens when they're 55 and saggy" who cares what you look like when your 55, and is you did get your tattoos for the right reason, then you'll have dam good memories.
