House of 1000 Corpses: classick or dud?

I certainly wasn't expecting such an involved homage to the Chainsaw and Hills Have Eyes franchises ... at the very least, color me pleasantly surprised.

And--of course--Bill Moseley RULES.

it had some good moments but went on kinda long.

Chainsaw as directed by Rob Zombie, pretty much (I mean, literally, yes, on the "directed by" part, but more to the point it specifically looks like he directed it. Jam out, I'm tired, you know what I mean). I guess that's both classic and dud depending on where you're standing, but I thought it was fun (I'm also a Chainsaw fan; and The Hills Have Eyes, yeah!)

What's his name, the guy who played Captain Spaulding? I love that guy. The movie's major weakness are that his scenes are the best, and they're not in the middle. I hope he's in the sequel.

I could've done without the music-video-like "talk to the camera" interstitials, but no biggie.

Thought the same thing, but also thought the extended coda biz--you know, the "hmmmmm, all the 'good guys' are dead, and here we all ... still ... are ... where exactly can this go?" part actually paid off in the graveyard & underground scenes; not dramatically or narratively, exactly, but still ...

Sid Haig, ladies and gentlemen ...

That's him! The girlfriend keeps reminding me of his name and it slips back out again.

He's been working like forever ... his THX credit is only about halfway to the beginning of his resume ...

I interviewed Rob Zombie when the film came out on DVD last month and he was awfully nice.

I'm looking forward to renting this movie one day.

Watched the end again with Rob's commentary; guess the coda feel's no accident, they made all that up 'cause the 'end' they had wasn't 'endy' enough. I guess saying any more would be be 'spoilery,' so ...

one month passes...
My God, how awful.

I made it through the first 35 minutes before I couldn't take anymore. It wasn't the gross-out factor (wasn't that gross, really, nothing unwatchable. It was just boring in how hard it tried to be.

nine years pass...

watched this again last night out of total idk what to do with myself late night desperation and for the first time it really clicked with me. other than the fact that sheri moon zombie is kind of shrill and awful and uh not at all a good actor, its waaaay more solid than i remember. bonus fun: i never realized until last night that one of the male protagonists (hint: the one that isnt rainn wilson) is chris hardwick from the nerdist!

I really liked The Devil's Rejects but never bothered watching this one because i heard it wasn't as good. You're right about SMZ though - she can't act for shit.

its a way different movie than DR. DR is some grim grim shit, this is much more funhouse batshit horror, with a healthy sense of the ridiculous.

I like grim shit.

I like batshit horror too though. And the ridiculous.

Hmmmmmm.

I will watch this movie and report back.

it feels sorta like a less goofy version of texas chainsaw massacre 2 to me.

i dream of booze pinata (jjjusten), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 20:05 (twelve years ago)

no offense to TCM2 intended, that movie is awesome

i dream of booze pinata (jjjusten), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 20:05 (twelve years ago)

It has Karen Black, which kind of elevates anything.

super perv powder (Phil D.), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 20:06 (twelve years ago)

with the exception of SMZ, the rest of the cast is full on scenery chewing awesome.

yeah, love it to death, the only r-zom movie i even half like. even enjoy sheri's irritating bad actingness, though i could do with a bit less of it.

and hell yeah, it's basically a TCM2 tribute, including moseley playing a similar part and the batshit nonsense ending.

i know your nuts hurt! who's laughing? (contenderizer), Thursday, 6 December 2012 01:22 (twelve years ago)
