the US has highest incarceration rate in the world?

Or is it cuz of the close physical proximity of the haves to the have-nots? Or is it _____? Or all of the above?

It might also be because people in the US are encouraged to be individualistic and get ahead by whatever means necessary. Crime rates in the US are also high, aren't they? Michael Moore made the point that if the leaders act like cowboys and criminals, etc etc.
