Sorry about that. I was trying to make everything run a bit faster, but I ended up fucking shit up pretty badly.

Tell us what you did while the server was down.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Me, I tried to get the fucking thing back up.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Realised that Rickie Lee Jones is definitely great.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Moped, did very little work, ate candy, moped some more, whined about how Ilx was still down, chatted, wrote a few stories... slept a little, moped some more.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

*tackle hugs Andrew & everyone else*

I actually started up a blog, just like the little sheep-type individual I am. ;) Sorry about the whinging regarding the downtime. I've just gotten spoiled.

Oh yeah, and tons and tons of responsible, adult-like things. Life was a dull grey business suit then. Now, it's a shiny, sparkly, metallic glam rocker getup again!

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Got warned.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks andrew!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ate dinner with ILXors.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Lost some sleep. Off to find it! I shall put it in a bag.

work.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Melted in the heat. (And played online cribbage.)

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

listened to a few Resonance FM archives ...read some reviews of John Zorn's and David Sylvian's albums ...did some day-jobbin' ...checked-rechecked the state of ilXorverse, occasionally ...thought, 'wonder how's Andrew doing'... updated virus check on my 'puter...

Thanks, Andrew, for fixing whatever it was.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris wins so far.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Read the Bam Margera message board. :(

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

got a lot more reading than usual done
(due to other factors as well, admittedly)

robin (robin), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Wrote two reviews. Writer's block solved. Blockage diagnosed.

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you Andrew, and Sean Carruthers for the RAM donation.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Worked on a Magnetophone remix

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I also bought two new hard drives. I now have 300gb of hard drive space. I've forgotten why I wanted so much space in the first place now.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually started up a blog

Mind if I add you to my friendslist, Dee? Or are you not likely to keep using LJ now this is back up? ;)

I'd like to say being ILXless meant I got more work done, but I just drifted back over to aus.culture.gothic and annoyed the shite out of my friends there instead, plus read LJ. When I got home last night, I sat curled up on the couch and read Oliver Sack's "Anthropolgist on Mars", because me and the boi are interested in neuralnets and this book dicusses austism and trying to understand how the mind works. Cool stuff.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I slept and read and cleaned the house and worked and, well, hmmm. Pretty much what I usually do. But I did read three books (well, one was almost finished when ILE went down) and so I celebrated by ordering 17 more.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ilx should be down more often, i got promoted.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Congratulations. (What were you promoted to?)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing worth going into detail about (more responsibility, more meetings, more phone calls, a little more money) but still it was a relief in this economy as i've had three friends in this town laid off last week - a healthcare professional, computer programmer, and a financial analyst.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I realized that, despite, my mostly-lurker status, this place is fairly important to me. Tried to figure out how I felt about that.

Also, I read "Flowers in the Attic." I'd missed it in high school and a copy was sitting around at work. It's pretty awful, no? Though I wondered what it would have done to me if I was a 14 year-old girl instead of a 37 year-old-fart.

And I poked around the Interweb to see if anyone has written seriously about Gahan Wilson. It seems like no one has, and I wonder if I should.

Hello, everyone.

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Wrote new piece for website about Neue Horspiel and how to be an 'imagineering disorienteer'.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 4 September 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Nursed a belly ache, spent money on Ginger smelling shampoo and a pair of pants at the Gap.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 5 September 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Tried to get a hold of Ally to get a hold of Tracer, who worked for Crozier fine arts, so that I could return the call of a guy who works there who told me to call back to see about work. No one called me back, though I did find out that there is no work to be had there.

Figure that one out.

ModJ, Friday, 5 September 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Mind if I add you to my friendslist, Dee? Or are you not likely to keep using LJ now this is back up? ;)

Go right ahead, dear! I've actually enjoyed posting to a journal. It's certainly something I've never done before.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 5 September 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello Marcel!

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 5 September 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Quit the safe confines of the bar and tried out as a chef. Actually it was pretty easy. Also got much more writing done than usual.Good work Andrew and thank you Sean but also AARGH! MY PROLIFIC STREAK HAS NOW ENDED!

Matt (Matt), Friday, 5 September 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Listened to Reality, read Nymphomation and seven chapters of Medieval Christianity, did next week's Spanish homework, AIMed, watched First Blood and Red Sox/White Sox (one sox night sox red sox white sox)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"Murder at the Mansion"

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

kicked it

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(congrats gygax)

I did lots of work and slept too little and was too busy to have dinner with ILXors.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Dicked around on Friendster, had a couple of long phone calls during time I would've been reading this anyway.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

btw, thanks to andrew and sean!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I fell asleep in Grant Park and got a sunburn on my face. Pretty hilarious, really. I am an idiot.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Played a game of Keep The Eyelids Up at an insurance class, played a game of Connect the Blogs by leaping from my friends' blogs to their friends' blogs etc etc. Watched one of my bands kinda fall apart in yelling and breaking stuff. Played out for the first time with the other band. Finally got my airconditioner fixed. Slept very little. Ate a lot. Drank a lot a lot. Wrote like 6 songs with a drum machine and acoustic guitar and distortion and echo and words and yelling and singing and whispering and put the conversation from Jacob's Ladder where they talk about giving troops in Vietnam this weird violence-inducing-LSD on this one jam and it's really kinda creepy sounding. Prob'ly more stuff I can't (or my subconsciousness doesn't want me to) remember. Y'know how it goes.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 September 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

somehow despite being a mostly lurker, the down time managed to make my workplace kick me off of ILX?! someone used the word 'fuck' pretty early on in the 'we're down' page i think, or at least that's my theory, but today when i tried to log on at work it said that the DOJ's 'Websense' blocked me from using this site do to content "SEX"

allyson (schmanktenputchka), Friday, 5 September 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazing. Pornographic maintenence messages.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 5 September 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it's weird, because they let me look at thongs on ebay but they won't let me look at anything on the victoria's secret website. and now no ILX. this blows.

allyson (schmanktenputchka), Friday, 5 September 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I re-enacted ILX using pens, a large whiteboard and a shebang of skilled monkeys

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 September 2003 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Blogged loads! Deleted Windows and reinstalled linux, realised linux cant see my usb modem, doh. but generally missed reading your witty banter.

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 5 September 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Luckily it coincided with the week's chunk of actual work. Good timing Andrew!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Please tell me tikiwiki is an electronic record-scratching application.

Wednesday: did loads of house tidying things that I always put off when ILX is up. Which is lucky because I didn't want the place to be a tip when Sarah got here. I then also went out drinking with ILXors (and not a newcomer in the house, it was very warm and nice).

Thursday: picked up muh honey from Heathrow airport, then let her sleep for four hours while I went shopping, made dinner, watched good TV (and cricket) and contemplated re-starting Barbara Thiering's "Jesus the Man". Then had delicious candlelit meal and went out with several of the same lovelies as the night before.

You know, it almost felt like we should have a break more often. Maybe it is a bit like needing space even from your nearest and dearest, and appreciating them that much more when you see them again.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Talked on MSN Messenger a LOT.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Worked on a Kraftwerk review, ordered Paul Morley's Words and Music from amazon.com and won some super-wide-leg pants on Ebay.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C OTM - I was quite happy with the timing of the break, it allowed the dust to settle on all the weekends nastiness and hopefully everything will be all the fluffier for it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Came back from Belgium, saw Gillian Welch at the SBE *sigh*, and went to a North London community music showcase.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually had a shitload of work to do the past few days, so I probably would have had to avoid ILX anyways. So this was kind of convenient, as now I don't really have to "catch up" as much. Also, did muchos soul-searching about moving to Chicago. Well, not so much soul-searching. More just generally being excited and daydreaming.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 5 September 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Depressed myself something awful, resolved (a bit) via quitting of temp-job.

Also went Club FT and realised I can't start conversations on anything with anyone, which was really quite sad. Damn this poxy shell o'mine.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(wbs i wz feeling strangely inward myself on wed so apologies for not smashing yr shell when we were sat 2getha) (in fact apols to everyone re this)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I AM THE SHELLSMASHER/TWISTED SHELLSMASHER (hey hey hey)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Was really sick/ spent lots of time moaning about being sick. Got a little better and searched for info on Chicago neighborhoods online.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

''wbs i wz feeling strangely inward myself on wed''

haha is that why you talked to me for 30 mins (well, around that) abt the avant garde, rock etc etc ;)

hey wbs sorry for not talking to ya. I'm just a bit drained from work etc and then i have the journey home so i can nevah stay too long.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 5 September 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to return some videotapes.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 5 September 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I worked and worked hard.
It was awful. Never go down again.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's that "ILX Out of Context" thread when you need it?

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

In my PANTS.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

it seems to be september 5 all over again?

minna (minna), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

yes it seems no longer to be summer, can a moderator please sort this out please? Thanks.

I read every blog online twice, then I stared at the screen blankly for hours.

I always talk on MSN for fucking ages so I did that too. That was the best part.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

realized that my
time on ILX must end.
*reconsidering*

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX without
Haikunym would be like a
clown without his pants.

Not dead, still joking,
squirting, running, and so on,
but somehow less fun.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Whilst ILX was down, I didn't do that much.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Realised that Rickie Lee Jones is definitely great.

Words of wisdom, those.

Jamie Conway (Jamie Conway), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot to call back Jimmy :( Sorry hon, there was a lot going on that night.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Bloody.

Hell.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, I did do a google search for ILX, it was mildly diverting.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I read two books, wrote an essay, went out, got high, got sat on by the same drunk girl twice, cooked a huge spinach/garlic lasagne, saw Pirates of the Caribbean, and hurt my flatmate's feelings by listening to Tri Repetae on full blast while she was playing guitar.

Would have been one book and half an essay if ILX hadn't been down.

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Friday, 5 September 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Wept openly!

Paul Ess, Friday, 5 September 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I got married, rec'd a 7-figure book advance for my Russell Simins biog (the drummer of the Blues Explosion, not the rap mogul), and changed my name to Bib Fortuna.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Talked about footballers' mullets on AIM. Watched Space Cowboys. Drank some wine. Did some ironing. Won 24 cans of Miller in a pub quiz (OK that was before it was down, but I just wanted to mention it).

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

saw Gillian Welch at the SBE *sigh*

Alex, if we were closer I'd hug you for that statement. I thought I was the only Gillian fan on here. She's been a fav. of mine for years. How was the show?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I entertained myself profusely with this.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow! Let's run thread titles through that thing! This one, for example:

That thing that you gave form, when ILX was in the reduction?

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 5 September 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

chilly chilled.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 5 September 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a blank spot in my memory, it must've been hella traumatic.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 5 September 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Me, I tried to get the fucking thing back up.

Good thing you did too, else a chat would have been in order....

Got actual emails/work done, had a friendly bicker with a mate.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 6 September 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Finished my album. Stuffed god knows how many copies of HSA's book in envelopes and licked so many stamps my tongue was too sore for teabagging!

kate (kate), Saturday, 6 September 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

what is teabagging?

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 6 September 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ho ho ho.

kate (kate), Saturday, 6 September 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Finished my album.

Yay! Would love to hear that...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 6 September 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, if we were closer I'd hug you for that statement. I thought I was the only Gillian fan on here. She's been a fav. of mine for years. How was the show?

i love gillian too!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 7 September 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I found other ways to keep my hands occupied....

brg30 (brg30), Sunday, 7 September 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, then I shall hug you as well, Di *HUGS*

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 8 September 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not working so good, new answers won't load properly. Is someone running complex searches??

jel -- (jel), Monday, 8 September 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It seemed to be down for 30 minutes or so. I hope I didn't break it trying to find the thread on Test the Nation. If I did, sorry.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 8 September 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to find the Ronan Golf Raver thread. You can get grey t-shirts which say 'Bunker Mentality' on them. Ronan should buy one.

David. (Cozen), Monday, 8 September 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan Golf Raver

(didn't overload the server with this one - it came up on the alltheweb indexing of the music thread)

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 8 September 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a niteclub/rave venue in west lothian called 'the bunker'.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought a golf sweater on Saturday, it's pretty cool, navy to avoid the Andy Peters look.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 September 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)
