i opened one the other day and it was a mess of symbols and gobbledegook.
a virus perhaps trying to find a way in?
since then i have been getting about one a day, always saying something about 'mailing failed' but not worded in the way it usually is when i have stuffed up an email address and it is rejected.
anyone else getting these things?
is it a virus / worm thing?

I just got something like that in my hotmail. It could just be another spam technique so you'll click to see what the hell it is.

Yeah, any email that goes "LjfknafjHDJSHusu #@$93 39" should probably be erased post-haste. Though you run the risk of ignoring a plea for help from someone who's choking to death.

ive been just deleting them since i looked at the first one. they are sneaky though, arent they, using 'message delivery failure' type headings to get you to open em up!

Sounds like stray SoBig worms. There was a thread on this from a week or two ago.

I got one of these the other day, luckily my copy of Norton killed it to pieces.

I had this, it was a side effect of SoBig. It doesn't necessarily have a thing to do with you...the worm will get in someone's address book, send itself to everyone in the book and pick a random address (yours) to spoof as the return address. It's not even necessarily the worm itself, just the email bouncing back to you.

I've been getting these too, and I was wondering if it was possible that spam-mails were being sent from my web-based email?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably. I get a lot of viruses sent to my hotmail address, the "undeliverable mail" gimmick gets used a lot.
