I hears ya, g--ff. I'm just starting a PhD program this semester, and I alternate between "Okay, this is great, I love it here, everything's going to be fine" and "Burning shit, what on earth am I doing here, I'm making a huge mistake" pretty frequently. I'm back and forth only about a hundred times a day, so I'm improving.

I don't suppose I have much of a choice though. An undergraduate degree is pretty much mandatory and quite uncreatively I can't think of anything better to do instead. Is that how college normally is? Well, it's OK but boring and Expected To Be Completed to teach time management and give something on which to focus energy before making any decisions that will impact the Future? Oh and here's some Plato?

dinner last night: hostess cupcakes, sunchips, cheetos, assorted candy (all given away free at some kind of casino night event sponsored by something-or-other)

i'm going back part-time this year (not 100% sorted yet, but about 98% likely).

Missing enrolment day doesn't matter too much! It can all be done a week or so later in hard-to-find offices.

I am going to be starting junior year. I remember last fall semester getting drunk 6 times in 10 days. and also gaining 20-some pounds due to virtually unlimited meal-swipes.

i graduated in may but i am still working at the school library and a friend of mine is a GRAD STUDENT RA (?!) and will be providing me with occasional free dining-hall swipes

I go back to school

orientation on wednesday, classes start next monday. omg i am actually going to grad school woah!

i am kicking myself for not making last friday my last day at job, instead i'm working til end of day tuesday and then jumping right into things on wednesday. ew.

i'm only taking one class this semester cuz i'm doing the two-job thing so i can get the hell outta here sooner rather than later. but i got an A- for my first essay! (art history)

that said: I am taking the GRE two days after classes start LOLOLOL I DON'T EVEN HAVE MY BOOKS YET.

yeah, I moved in saturday and classes start tomorrow. I thought that was pretty normal, but after talking to some other people, I guess not...

I think all the schools in the southeast start around the same time, but NC schools are def the earliest. Pretty much everyone else starts after Labor Day.

I'm taking physical anthropology at the City College of San Francisco with a forensic anthropologist for Contra Costa County. I love his stories, even if a variety of premises usually lead to roughly the same punchlines. "So I'm like, hey buddy, what you have there is a cow bone, and you're a shitty doctor!"

school starts next wednesday for me but ive been here all summer. im going through radio station training right now.

for some reason I thought you were older than me/already done with school.

The thought of returning to school makes my stomach turn.

Possibly because I spent 19 of the first 30 years of my life in school.

Really, really glad to be out.

Starts a week from now. I am nervous bcz I am taking classes in which I am less familiar with the subject matter. I am going to have to LEARN all this NEW STUFF.

xpost - hi! this summer i went on an archaeological dig, and now i am going to europe on a watson-type fellowship, so i am being busily and happily unemployed for the time being.

starting my second (and final) year tomorrow! the semester started today but i don't have any monday classes.

on wednesday i find out for certain whether i've got the internship i'm up for. they're VOTING on me at their meeting. there's no competition at this stage, it's just approve or deny, plus going over the scope of work. they've already approved the money i'd be getting if, hypothetically, they retained me. i'm nervous!

i got homework assignment via email today and we have not had class yet! oh man freaking out because i have not been a student in ages and now i am like 'oh shit you can't just pretend this is some job you don't care about, you have to buckle down and work!'

my roommate is listening to something called "Fever for the Flava" by Hot Action Cop

I start up again Wednesday, and I'm taking 18 hours, which weighted for schools that don't suck is probably equivalent to a regular course load. One more year of this and hopefully some school district will deem me fit to teach students like 5 or 6 years younger than me.

19 credits, 4 of which are a 20 hour a week internship/fellowship; the other 15 are all real courses. i am scared.

have any of you ever signed up for a class only to receive NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER of where the class is going to be held? the registration website says nothing, my e-mail to the prof went unreturned, and the people in the office at the architecture school said they hadn't heard anything from her either. i wandered around the entire building looking for signs of life, but got nothing. guess i'm dropping the class! better to find out now than later on that the prof is an irresponsible flake.

That happened to me once, and the workstudy kid at the registrar tried to ask for my social security number and fucking mother's maiden name to look me up in the system!

I took a different class.

I realised recently I started college 6 years ago. OLD.

OLD? I started 16 years ago. That's like half my life ago, nearly.

I just had a bit of a staring contest with the new director of financial aid at my daughter's college. They fucked up the amount of one of her state grants, shorting her $625 -- when I pointed out their error, he said "oh, yes, we'll get that taken care of -- but that might reduce the amount of her scholarship, because [steady stream of bullshit issued from the mouth]." I was all O RLY, this is completely news to me, and she had all the same grants and scholarships last year, what exactly is different now? He was all um-um-uh-I'll-double-check-that-and-I-apologize-if-I'm-wrong, I'M NEW HERE PLEASE DON'T HURT ME.

My college's administration is in worse shape than usual due to a big change in their computer system, so I haven't even heard what my financial loans will be for the year. Which is scary, since classes start in a few weeks...

I just purchased my accounting book used for still $112! It is so fucking heavy! I hope my financial aid office gets their shit together and I get my correct loan amount soon or that is the only book I'll be purchasing!
