how many gigs have you, well, you know...

that dm 101 thread got me thinkin' and wondering about the gig history of ilxors. and how many musical experiences i've shared with others here. and that scene in 24 hour party people where all the characters of the story were at the same sex pistols show without knowing each other. and what an historical hipster trajectory it would make for each person.

so what shows have you been to?
(in case this has been done or is a dumb idea, why don't you start....)

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i doubt i've been to any legendary shows. but i did see Nirvana, that must count for something right?

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely it would! I missed them (had 2 chances as well! argh) and MBV, which pisses me off.

You know, I dont think I can add uphow many shows Ive been to, even if I cut out small local band gigs and suchlike and only include "big" acts I couldnt say. Loads, but strangely, I never go to see bands anymore.

But off the top of me head I've seen: Lush, Adorable, Pavement, Throwing Muses, Kristin Hersh, Smashing Pumpkins, Inspiral Carpets, Rollins, PWEI, Jesus Jones, Died Pretty, TISM (loads and loads), Mudhoney, Mogwai, Teenage Fanclub, the Fall, the Buzzcocks, Sonic Youth, endless bands on Big Day Out bills which is cheating really... blimey. *suprised face*. Lots.

.. and almost all of this was between '89 and '93-'94 (Mogwai excepted).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the and band & the perfect strangers at the arts centre & the oxford st band rotunda, about june/july 1980...everyone i would ever know in the future was there, i didn't know them yet tho

forbidden or obsolete (24 hour troubleshooter), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The most legendary gig I ever went to was one where I DJed before and in between Zan Lyons, Luke Vibert and BJ Cole and Mike Paradinas. The only performance where I've had women throw themselves at me. (well a woman, she was pilled up to her eyeballs but its the drug addled thought that counts)

I saw a lot of early mogwai, magoo and arab strap gigs which may class as legendary. (also the delgados but they were shit).

But wait, I guess the most unique was Squarepusher's free jazz band at Love-Bytes and Senti-Ents in '98. The most bonkers mental gig I ever saw.

Do late gigs by milt jackson and celia cruz count?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

PS my gig list would be useless to anyone cept others from Melbourne or Canberra... be interested to know if anyone here has been to any of those shows I listed tho (Jim, I bet you have!)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

of that list, the only band i saw was Mogwai! seeing Ride at the height of their powers in '93 was an experience and a half too..

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 11 September 2003 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Nirvana at this show. I was only 18 and they had a 21-over policy, but me and my buddy drove up anyway and took sharpies and attempted to forge the little simplistic "numeral 8" handstamp they used, and it worked! Tad opened up for them. Not the ILx0r, the band. I was a huge Nirvana fan already, so after Tad finished, I moved up to the front of the stage. Actually, it wasn't even really a stage at the Blind Pig, more like a knee-high raised platform. After they walked up, Kurt kneeled down and started writing out a setlist. A couple people called out for songs, and yelled out for "Stain". Kurt looked up at me and nodded and wrote it next on the list!

That's my goofy fanboy story.

Fuck I forgot about Ride, yeah I saw them also - second tour, when "Going Blank Again" came out. Bloody marvellous.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 September 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess the 'last pulp gig for a while' in Sheffield last winter was pretty good.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

the most "famous" of the bands i've seen are the clean, the chills, the terminals, dimmer, dead c, al galbraith, hasselhoff experiment, space dust, the renderers, fake purr, sleater-kinney, 99, dead moon, shellac, plus a heap of local bands that are made up of people i know.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 11 September 2003 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

what about LiG (only new zealand band I know/have a record from)

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

neither duane nor i are familiar with them. who are they? what city are they from?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 11 September 2003 07:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I will dig out the record and promo sheet and report back

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Blank drawn here too. I've the Clean a few times and they're ALWAYS great. So far. The Chills were good when I saw them too, Martin was wearing a sort of Star Trek uniform shirt

i think it's been scientifically proved that the (uk)ilx version of the sex pistols gig was the friday night at the rizla tent at glastonbury last year, wasn't it? i suppose the other would be the bowlie weekend at camber sands...

every year i think, "i shall make a list of all the bands i go to see this year, so i don't forget", and then i forget to make the list...

i don't go to enough gigs any more, i blame TOM EWING'S FRIENDS and the pub...

(i am going to see !J!U!S!T!I!N! !T!I!M!B!E!R!L!A!K!E! soon though)

I saw the Foo Fighters once, they were impressively boring. I quite liked some of their songs, too. SY played that time (so actually I've seen them twice), they were GOOD

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 11 September 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Best Ever Gig was the 'lost generation' mini-festival at the Camden Irish Centre, December '94 - Pram, Moonshake, Disco Inferno, Cornershop, Gorky's, Stereolab all in one evening. I still have DI's setlist somewhere and keep meaning to scan it in.

I doubt I've been to more than 50 gigs in my life, even counting very small ones. When it's good it's really really good, but mostly live music is a bit shit.

I've been to abt 30-40.

But only two were rock shows: Bardo Pond in canada and Boris and some other drone stuff in some shithole in camden. Both great.

The rest has been free jazz/improv: best was seeing Alan wilkinson playing his baritone saxophone with some electric guitar player whose name i've never heard (and can't remmeber), AMM with Taku sugimoto and Derek bailey with Milo fine. Also Mimeo last week which was part installation, part gig was unique experience.

Anything with William Parker

Ones of special note:

Wings, 1976
Joan Jett, 1982
Beastie Boys opening for Madonna, 1985
Public Enemy opening for LL Cool J, 1987
Eminem, 1998

I think Spiritualized is the band I've seen the most over time...*counts in brane*...six times. Not planned that way, it just happened...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

people who are not worthy of their gigs. . .

-my father's brother and mom's sister who went on one ill-fated date to a Sex Pistols show here in TX. My aunt was so horrified by the bleeding Sid Vicious playing his bass with a fish that they never went out again.

-my stepfather who saw the Runaways open for the Ramones in Ft. Worth. He tapes NASCAR races and enjoys cutting his lawn.

not fair .. . not fair. . .

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't answer this in the time I have left before I die.

But.

Reading '92 gave me two timeless moments:

1. Forsaking, after much umming and ahhing, Ride and EMF on the main stage in favour of Suede and The Sultans Of Ping in the tent - a decision, for what it's worth, which I do not regret one iota, since lalala I saw Suede in 1992 and that's quite rare in my experience (and the Sultans ROCKED).

2. Nirvana headlining the main stage - we were absolutely *miles* away from the front but managed to catch Everett True wheeling Kurt onto the stage in a wheelchair; we stayed for about two-and-a-half songs (not a clue what they were, even), then got bored and retired to my tent to neck like 17 year-olds are meant to. Little did we know, that was to be Nirvana's final UK performance...

The Cure at the Kilburn National in May '92 sticks out as especially special; Pulp at The Garage in, er, 2000 I think (yep it was that recently), was astounding, Blur at Leicester University in September/October 1993 (when they gave out the Modern Life train badges, and apparently the first ever appearance of "Girls & Boys" on a Blur setlist) was ace, and Spiritualized supported by Mercury Rev (still including the legendary David Baker) around the same time was incredible.

On average, I've been to 150-200 gigs a year since 1993 and I'm fucked if I'm trying to remember them all...but remembering the above was fun enough!

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 12 September 2003 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just going to be posting blind to this thread, because I want to get my post out of the way before I'm humiliated by my comparative lack of concert experience and end up feeling dejected.

Ok, I haven't been to a lot of concerts. In fact, I've probably been to fewer concerts than your average seventeen-year-old. Let me try to list them all:

One:
Rolling Stones, Voodoo Lounge tour, 1994, Alamodome
Bryan Adams and the Ian Wright Band opened for the Stones, and I remember the Stones didn't play too many of their more recent works. They mainly concentrated on their '60s and early '70s material, which went down great for the crowd in general, but I was a bit disappointed they didn't do anything off Undercover of the Night or Steel Wheels. Ah well.

Two:
U2, PopMart tour, 1997, Alamodome
Third Eye Blind were the opening act, and I remember liking them for a few months after the concert because I thought they were so cute, so very fresh-faced and full of youthful excitement. U2 were amazing, IMHO. The concert was just shortly after Michael Hutchence's death, so there was a short bit of the concert that was dedicated to him. (Maybe three songs' worth.) I wasn't at all disappointed with this concert.

Three:
Duran Duran, Let It Flow tour, 1999, Dallas Starplex Amphitheater
My very first Duran Duran concert. Wow. Some turboslut opened for them. Ugh. But wow, my very first Duran Duran concert, and I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever experienced. You see, I had been a fan for eight years at the time and I finally managed to save enough money for me to be able to afford to pay for not only the concert ticket but also the trip expenses. I wasn't disappointed at all, especially since they performed so much from Medazzaland, and especially since I got to meet Simon, Nick, and Warren afterward (I actually got a hug from Simon *laughs*).

Four:
Duran Duran, Pop Trash tour, 2000, Dallas Starplex Amphitheater
Same location, different feel, especially since I was meeting some people I'd chatted with for a little bit online. Tsar opened up for the band, which was... interesting, mainly because I thought the lead singer must've been on something. Anyway, this was my very first Duran concert that was concentrating on actually promoting an album. I. Loved. It. The spirit, the energy, the -- wow. I didn't even think about how hot & humid it was at the time. I met Nick and Warren again. *laughs*

Five, Six:
Duran Duran, same tour, same year, House of Blues - Las Vegas
Traveled all the way over to Vegas to see Duran perform live, mostly because I wanted more of the band, but also because I wanted to meet more of the people I'd been chatting with for a short bit online. It was also my first time in Vegas, which makes the fact that I spent most of my time there waiting in line inside Mandalay Bay (& slowly developing an aversion to the place) even sadder and more pathetic than it would be otherwise.

Seven, Eight:
Duran Duran, Up Close & Personal tour, 2001, House of Blues - Las Vegas
Ok, so I'm an uberfan. Call me Fangirl if you'd like. But I just had to go and see Duran again. These concerts introduced me to the whole concept of the "evil clown music", i.e. the Goldfrapp CD the band would play from shortly prior to the concert's beginning. (Just in case you're curious, I've looked it up and it's the Felt Mountain CD.) The phrase "Can't sleep, clowns will eat me," was well-used throughout the beginning, by the concert-going audience. The highlight for me for the two concerts was the fact that I was ACTUALLY IN THE FRONT ROW FOR BOTH OF THEM (*laughs* -- well, you would be if you spent about 6 1/2 hours waiting in line each day). By the beginning of the second day, however, I just COULD NOT STAND TO LOOK AT THE MANDALAY BAY HOTEL ONE MORE FRICKIN' TIME. Grrrr.

Nine:
Depeche Mode, Exciter tour, 2001, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater - Selma, TX
Yet another one of those moments I truly treasure -- my first Depeche Mode concert, after being a fan of theirs for nine years, and only my second concert ever experienced by an artist ACTUALLY SUPPORTING A NEW ALBUM (*ahem stupidoldRollingStonesgits ahem*). They played a heck of a lot from Exciter, which I wholly approved of, and didn't focus any attention on their earlier works, which I also approved of. This concert also produced the only opening act I've experienced that I actually still like, i.e. Poe. (Ok, so I can be a sucker for Lillith Fair-style artists. So SUE me.) Dave Gahan moved around the stage like a god, and Martin L. Gore was still amazingly cool. Still one of my most treasured concert experiences.

Ok, so I've been to more concerts than I thought. Still, it's not a heck of a lot, especially considering how old I am, how many of them involved one singular artist, and how much time (a.) elapsed between a lot of these concerts and (b.) has elapsed since the last time I went to a concert.

Actually, the first time my spouse & I were in the same room was at the Pavement/Superchunk/My Bloody Valentine show at the Ritz in NYC, 1992... we decided that that was retroactively our first date, although we didn't actually meet for another seven years after that.

So looking at the CD shelf next to my computer (which goes Sw-Z), here are the artists in that range I've seen live:
Swirlies (x2), Sylvesterboy, Nobukazu Takemura, Tall Dwarfs (inc. a memorable show at Under Acme w/ VPN, Utensil & Airlines), Tarnation, Team Dresch, Teenage Fanclub (their first American show, at a rented-out rehearsal space in 1990 or '91), Television Personalities, They Might Be Giants, Thingy, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 (half a dozen times), Third Eye Foundation, David Thomas, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments (at a tiny bar that had free White Castles that day), Richard Thompson (awesome show at Joe's Pub), the 3Ds (at the Mercury Lounge--I regretted not buying a T-shirt until Gail O'Hara gave me hers this year), Tiger Trap, Sally Timms, Tizzy, Tortoise, the Tower Recordings, Trans Am, True Love Always, Trumans Water, Tsunami, 2 Foot Flame, Ui, Uncle Wiggly (about 20 times, & wish it'd been more), Unrest (about a dozen times, & wish it'd been more), the Upper Crust, U2, Varttina, the Verlaines, Vershki Da Koreshki, Versus, Very Pleasant Neighbor a.k.a. VPN (20 times or so), Viva Satellite, Vomit Launch (at CBGB's--memorable!), Voodoo Glow Skulls, David S. Ware, Waterson:Carthy, WCKR SPGT (backed up by Nothing Painted Blue at Brownies), the Wedding Present, Weird Paul, Marva Whitney (briefly, at Brownies), Wild Carnation, Wingtip Sloat (inc. once at the Marquee when they opened with "Trigger Cut"), Wire (thrice now), Xerobot, Xiu Xiu, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Yo La Tengo (maybe 10 times), You Are My Flower, Tom Zé, John Zorn. If I went and looked at the vinyl, too, there'd probably be a lot more, but that should give you some idea...

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 12 September 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot two really imporant ones - TMBG (as thats where I was proposed to... awwww - not that I ended up gettin married heh), and Roy Ayers, because he's a fuckin' legend and I feel priveledged I saw him. He was a bit slow due to his age, but that man is amazing with his 4 sticks.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 September 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

And they were really good too.)

Johnny Gill was a triple bill with MC Hammer, Paula Abdul and him. From what I remember Phil it was fantastic. I was 13-14.

Some more:
G. Love - smoked weed and drank beer with him before and after the show. He played a spring weekend at my wifes college.
Iron and Wine
Beck
Sigur Ros
numerous local bands.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 12 September 2003 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Deanna, you are a teenager and I am 44 - we are hardly likely to have been to the ssme number.

Also, how did I forget to mention the Fall???

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Deanna, you are a teenager and I am 44 - we are hardly likely to have been to the ssme number.

*laughs* I'm 23, remember? To turn 24 in December... ? (Hey, that inadvertently rhymed.) I just stated I had attended fewer concerts than your average 17-year-old because I have, not because I'm actually 17. Ergo, there are people who are actually close to my age who have posted huge numbers on this thread.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oops i forgot
Toad The Wet Sprocket
Nada Surf

So no one's seen New Kids on the Block? My mother got me two lawn tickets to see them play at the World Amphitheatre in Chicago, lord knows why, and I didn't go. I've regretted it ever since.

koogs (koogs), Friday, 12 September 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Dee! Nonetheless, that's still over 20 years difference. And there are people here far younger than me who have been to loads more gigs than me. Still, there are no awards for this kind of thing, of course.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 September 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot GBV and Yo La Tengo, probably because they were terrible.

i've seen both at the same venue here in melbourne and they were among the best shows i've ever seen, especially GbV who were on seriously good form..

are Apples in stereo any good live, phil two?

I'm not sure they've EVER played a gig in the uk :(

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 13 September 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I barely go to gigs any more. However, I shall be going to the WINCHESTER CLUB in GLASGOW on FRIDAY 17TH OCTOBER to see THE LUCKSMITHS and THE AISLERS SET, and no mistake!

Andy, I have a feeling I couldn't go to that Too Pure show and was totally gutted. Old wounds :(

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 13 September 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, I saw Belle and Sebastian, I'd forgotten compeletely.

I've heard from Denver people that Apples in Stereo are pretty terrible live. They've played in the UK a couple of times Mark H.

Apples in Stereo are pretty terrible live

Very, very true.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 September 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, here's where i really out myself. keep in mind that i've seen like one or two shows a year (other than friends' gigs) for the last 5 or 6 years, during which time i developed, how you say, taste...

first concert ever - Paul Simon, Central Park, August 15, 1991

real first concert ever - Indigo Girls, Beacon Theatre, May or June 92 (and at least 5x since, in Central Park, at MSG, Wolf Trap, etc., including my most recent show)

the rest, as far as I can remember (I'm definitely missing lots of stuff), in iterative/alpha order...

- Phish (ahem, ~25x since 2/6/93) including Roseland Ballroom, NY, first five rows for every MSG show 95-96, Nissan Pavilion, VA w/ Dave Matthews encore, Great Woods, MA, Sugarbush, VT, Limestone, ME

- Medeski, Martin and Wood (at least 3x), NYC and DC
- Ominous Seapods (at least 3x), sub-jam band; once drove back from LI with one of the guitar players. One of the shows I set up and ran at my college in not particularly responsible fashion.
- Shawn Colvin (3x?), Beacon Theatre, Wolf Trap w/ Mary Chapin-Carpenter appearance and Subdudes opener
- Leftover Salmon (at least 2x), Irving Plaza (after one of the shows I hung out w/ their banjo player who died a few years ago)

- Sleater-Kinney (2x), clubs in Brooklyn
- Spin Doctors (2x) Beacon Theatre NYE 92 and on the Screaming Trees/Soul Asylum tour, Greek Theatre, LA
- Masada, Castle Clinton, NY (I've seen random other Zorn at least once)
- Vertical Horizon (at least 1x). Years before they were on the radio. Summer 93 or 94 before I liked them I popped my head in to a cafeteria at Georgetown where they were playing for like one person and then popped out.
- A Tribe Called Quest, steps of Low Library, Columbia U.

- Vue/The Faint, The Black Cat
- W.I.T., Luxx, Brooklyn
- Shannon Worrell, Fez, NY (with unannounced appearance by Jeff Buckley)
- Yo La Tengo, steps of Low Library (before I liked them - boo)

most memorable - first Dead and Phish shows, Phish 10/31/94 (the first Halloween show, 10PM - 3:30 AM) and 12/31/95, Maceo, P-Funk, seemingly incendiary MMW set at Knitting Factory w/ Marc Ribot, Masada, Tribe (my first hiphop show; I really haven't seen very many have I?), Sleater-Kinney at 100-degree-interior Southpaw this summer, Hootie at the Bayou - half the crowd from the Univ. of So. Carolina, band drunker than crowd, Ziggy - huge international crowd, rasta guys kicking around soccer balls, everyone cheers when a helicopter flies overhead and lands on the White House lawn

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 13 September 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 September 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

are Apples in stereo any good live, phil two?

yes!! well i mean, its not as tight sounding as their album obviously, but they put a lot of energy into the shows, and robert schneider is so absolutely adorable that you can forgive them for fucking up some of the songs. "oops, hee-hee, sorry about that guys, um, hee-hee, giggle, the next song is Seems So, gigglegiggle".

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 13 September 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, I really couldn't begin to do this. Really. I virtually lived in King Tuts for about three years when I was a student, used to follow the Manics about, used to blag my way into everything when I wrote for the student papers, have two carrier bags full of tickets stubs (including nearly as many Carter USM stubs as Mark C probably has), which is obviously not including the ones I didn't actually buy tickets for.

Best ones? Alex Chilton and Teenage Fanclub downstairs in the old 13th Note pub in Glasgow, also Big Star at the Glasgow QMU, the two Belle and Sebastian gigs that Andy mentioned above in Glasgow (I'm assuming he meant the ones in Maryhill Community Centre though if he meant the ones in Glasgow and Edinburgh I was at them too), Pulp at Glastonbury '95, Nick Cave duetting with Kylie at T in the Park, the last three Manics gigs at the Astoria before Richey went AWOL, Suede at King Tuts, Radiohead at King Tuts, Blur supported by Radiohead c. Modern Life is Rubbish (Radio 1 thing at the Barrowlands), Bowlie (honorable mention even though I hardly saw any bands), Jeff Buckley, Edwyn Collins & Roddy Frame joint gig in Edinburgh ...

I have no idea how you all did this, you know. I could go on interminably (oh, I already have)

(last gig I went to was the Rolling Stones)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 13 September 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't believe so many of you remember these long lists of shows. I couldn't even begin to recount my gig history. Bands i've seen tons, like Blur, I couldn't even tell you how many times. Just "a lot."

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Saturday, 13 September 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I threw away all my old ticketstubs last year in a fit of tidiness, so have no idea how many and which bands which number of times, but it's been quite a few. I keep thinking I've been going to less gigs recently, and then remember that I spent this May doing almost nothing else. Nothing particularly iconic or legendary, but Sonic Youth, Radiohead, the Dirty Three - in the Barfly of all places - and every ...And You Will Know Us by The Trail Of Dead (why don't they come to the UK anymore?) gig stand out as good, good memories. And it's a bit disturbing how many times I've seen Calla, considering I only discovered them in March.

(and eeeeee! Lucksmiths! coming to the UK! am so, so, so excited.)

cis (cis), Saturday, 13 September 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Sam, other than those people who have kept journals or stubs or something, I think most of us are just throwing out the names we can remember - I know there are loads that I haven't included.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 13 September 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

ticketstubs? at leat half the gigs I've been to, I just turned up on the night and they stamped my hand!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 13 September 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

nice to know Lucksmiths are playing in the UK on my birthday. Pity it's in Glasgow.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 13 September 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i still have my sleater-kinney ticjet stubs

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 13 September 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

it's all a fucking blur. i have *no* idea how many gigs.
i could give some highlights off the top of my head from the early days 1980-4:
X, Dead Kennedys, Chelsea, The Damned, Cramps, XTC, Wall of Voodoo, The Jam, The Clash, The Ramones, Missing Persons, Boomtown Rats, English Beat, TSOL, Black Flag, Minutemen, Flaming Lips, Meat Puppets, MDC, Die Kreuzen, Neubaten, Cruzados, Corrosion of Conformity (featuring the *stupidest* guy I have EVER met*), Meat Joy, Butthole Surfers, Big Boys, Hazel O'Connor, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Professionals (ex-Sex Pistols).

From 1985-present too many to list, too many to remember, i didn't keep stubs or anything. All the Sp* bands, Tool, Imperial Butt Wizards, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Possum Dixon, PopDefect, Tav Falco, Wayne Kramer, John Sinclair/Blues Scholars, US Bombs, all the BOMP/Alive bands I guess now that I think about it, all the bands we played with....I am senile I will *never* remember them all! (until something jogs my memory)

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh I forgot the prodigy.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 September 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

my father's brother and mom's sister who went on one ill-fated date to a Sex Pistols show here in TX. My aunt was so horrified by the bleeding Sid Vicious playing his bass with a fish that they never went out again.

Classic, Sammy! Get the stub, you can always lie and say you went.

That reminds me, I did see the Sex Pistols. Banging, but a bit disappointing: was like seeing granddad and his mates on stage, trying to be oh-so-hip.

Then, I saw Lamb
Basement Jaxx
Donnas
Kosheen
Beverley Knight
Starsailor*
UNKLE
....

at V2002

*Saw them twice in NYC as well

and Radiohead
Coldplay
And You Will Know Them by The Trail of Dead

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 15 September 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I started to tally this up and it was pointless. easier to say who I haven't seen (radiohead. that's about it). I will type out all my ticketstubs later when I can't sleep, but that still leaves out probably half the gigs (admittedly a full half of the shows I've seen in my life are american music club/eitzel shows and charles atlas shows, because they're friends).

most unlikely show: new kids on the block. I had to take my sister. Egads.

I've been to way too many, so i've lost count. I've also lost count of how many crap canto-pop concerts i went to before the age of 7 (around 5-10 i guess). All I know is that last year I went to 106, as a challenge for myself, and this year I was supposed to cut down, but i've not really stopped at all.

but I should go to more in London..

looking at my list above, I'm amazed how many good gigs I've missed off, including Hefner and Spearmint.

but I should go to more in London

careful, Jill, that way lies madness! Sleeping on the Oxford Tube, standing around at chilly bus stops for hours on end, that kinda thing.

what is canto-pop?

Cantonese pop, which I gather is the Hong Kong style among other things.
