I've been reading this book about the joinme cult started by danny wallace, and it's really interesting..about how he built up this cult without actually knowing the purpose and getting a thousand followers etc etc... And all I could think was, why didn't I hear about this? it was all over the net, etc etc newspapers radio...
ANYWAY
this is the thread where you post about interesting stuff that's happening, like flash mobbing before it got crap.

i sometimes see threads from 2 years ago and even tho I *was* around these parts then, think "I wish I'd noticed those at the time!"

It's the story of my life. I am perpetually out of the loop, whatever the loop may be.

I sometimes see threads on 2 years ago and think "Imagine what I could have achieved if I hadn't been posting to that" ;)

Things occur with and without me, and many times I am content to boggle (or flat out ignore!).

I hate it when I have an awesome picture planned out with my camera in my hands, and after I take the picture it doesn't advance because it's at the end of the roll.

Or when a favorite band of mine comes thought the local area and I only find out about it after it has happened.

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 11 September 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

When ppl are discussing more popular forms of music on ILM and I don't have the record I do get that feeling. But i don't do much abt it so I'm not that bothered.

You ever hear about those really great linen sales, where everything is like 30-50% off, and all your friends went and got these great linens and now have fresh new linens on their sheets while you're still using the skanky sheets you got at the Goodwill that don't quite match, and you even remember that day when suddenly the office was like totally empty, like a ghost town, and you were just standing there by the coffee machine holding a fax in one hand wondering, hey, where'd everyone go? and when you find out they had all gone to this great one-day-only linen sale you wonder, well, fuck, why didn't anyone tell me about it? don't I look like the sort of person who would appreciate a good linen sale? and you realize that no one likes you or cares about you, not really, not in any meaningful way, and so you come up with a plan and you get yourself a few, like, guns, machine guns, and you head into work the next day and it's like, hope you enjoy the nice new linens! they'll make a lovely shroud! and you shoot and you shoot and you shoot but at the end of all that you realize that there still isn't anyone who really likes or cares about you, and you got your nice blazer all stained, and so you resolve never to make that mistake again, but then again, you never were very good at sticking to your resolutions, and you cry yourself to sleep in your skanky linens that you bought secondhand at the Goodwill.

I realized yesterday when I saw the sign for a discussion about Iraq that I haven't followed the news since I got here two weeks ago.

Yes. In high school I never heard about weekend parties until the subsequent Monday morning. This set much of the pattern for my subsequent (social) life.

I should learn to write you're

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

always, still do. i hate that feeling, since i inevitably interpret that as being excluded and not wanted. hell, since a lot of my life is discovery of new things, i feel that i've missed out on so much becuase i didn't get into it earlier. e.g. Radiohead, Spiritualized, having anything resembling a decent sex life for the last decade, etc.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I refuse to end this thread on that note.
This is a good thread where everyone shares the secret fun.

(p.s. first person who says masturbation gets a prize)
