Aren't Colins great?

I never met a Colin I didn't like. Is there something about being a Colin that makes you a nice person? Your views on this, please.

funnily enough you are quite right. I know 2 Colins and they are both really nice people.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 13 September 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Collins is an irritating wanker, however.

Coat Hanger (c_hanger), Saturday, 13 September 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Harper Collins is an ok publisher I suppose.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 13 September 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

im nice too, i must say!

jed (jed_e_3), Saturday, 13 September 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you're a jerk.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Saturday, 13 September 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin the dog from Spaced is the cutest dog ever.

I am struggling to think of famous Colins, all I can think of is Colin Farrell. Colin is one of those names that looks really stupid when you see it written down if you look at it properly.

Oo, thought of another one! Colin Powell! Is he great? Or is he disqualified because he pronounces it wrong?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 13 September 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

colins tend to be nerd's or idiots in middle class english sitcoms too.

jed (jed_e_3), Saturday, 13 September 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Powell does the worst thing of all -- he deliberately mispronounces his name (his mother pronounces it correctly) in order not to offend the sort of idiots who don't know how Colin is to be pronounced.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Saturday, 13 September 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"Colin Powell does
the worst thing of all" indeed,
Bush/Cheney lapdog

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 13 September 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

NO.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 13 September 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not as thrilled with the Colin who's a family friend as the rest of my family is. Well, he's quite nice to my grandparents.

I like Colin Quinn thought.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 13 September 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Greenwood is the best Colin ever.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 13 September 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

William does provide compeling evidence against the greatness of colin's.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 13 September 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Eh, I have issues. Just with one particular Colin, though. He's nice enough, but he's also super-flaky and really annoying at times. I'm also really good friends with his ex-girlfriend, and since they broke up, she's spoken quite ill of him.

That's very true. However, I maintain that real life Colins are very nice indeed. As are many Brians and some Michaels.

Andys, however, tend to be a little unreliable, especially in love. Ladies, stay clear of Andys and get yourself a Colin.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 14 September 2003 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

if i was called colin i'd change my name

duane, Sunday, 14 September 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

to "colon"

duane, Sunday, 14 September 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I I were Duane I'd change my name to drain.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 14 September 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Friels is a good actor. So is Colin Lastnameescapesme who played the hero role in Pride and Prej.

Colin Cowdrey was a damned good cricketer, as was Colin Milburn (both sadly no longer with us).

Collins Street in Melbourne is still a sought-after address.

Collins class submarines seem to be a load of bollocks, however.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 14 September 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Lastnameescapesme

Firth.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 14 September 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Ailsa. I had the usual moment of dread (which comes about four seconds after hitting 'enter') that I'd dropped a clanger and Friels and the P&P actor were one and the same!

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 14 September 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Newman

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 14 September 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

...and Colin Newman epitomises what is great about Colins in my view. Diffident, humbled by his own name, yet creative, engaging and strong.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 14 September 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Just remembered the twin stalwarts of the Scotland defence in the early to mid-90s...Messrs Calderwood and Hendry.

Also, the all round good geezer that was Colin from Press Gang. (Do fictional Colins count?)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 14 September 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

if my name was colin (and i'm not saying it is) i might change it to andy, so as to have a little fun with the laydeez.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 14 September 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ailsa, fictional Colins get a bad press, as someone has already said upthread. I therefore propose that we disregard them.

Hello Gaz, where you been? Quick, straight to the Pseudo Echo thread!

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Monday, 15 September 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah!!

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 15 September 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this the thread where I go off about what an annoying talentless mushmouthed rocks-in-the-head moron Colin Quinn is? He's a terrible comedian, his timing is atrocious and his jokes painfully unfunny, and how he ever got a show doing political material is very nearly inconceivable. Maybe there's a sort of good-ol'-boys network thing going on at Comedy Central.

Or is that another thread?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 15 September 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

In America, Brians are horrible.

I tend to like Aarons, Matts, and most Chris's

Aaron A., Monday, 15 September 2003 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeffs are nice people. I'm heavy into Jeffs.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 15 September 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Powell explains on his "Biography" that his name is pronounced the way it is because that's how it's normally pronounced in Jamaica or wherever his parents were originally from, and so that's how his name got pronounced the way it was.

I quite like Colin Mochrie, btw. So hilarious, so willing to make a fool out of himself, and he and his wife are such a cute (in an "aw, look at those two older people!") couple. Plus, Clive Anderson sure seemed to like the way he (Colin) impersonated a dinosaur. ;)

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 15 September 2003 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Kenan you're right about Colin Quinn. I've never found him funny, although I know him mostly through "Weekend Update" on SNL, and he's said that that gig didn't suit his talents very well.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 15 September 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I know several Colins, and they are very pleasant people.

I don't know any children who are called Colin though - has the name gone out of fashion for some reason?

C J (C J), Monday, 15 September 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Monday, 15 September 2003 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the name Colin is associated with Kevin, quite possibly just because of the fact they are both bisyballic five letter names that end in "-in". Kevin has definitely gone out of fashion, possibly sparked off by "My Perfect Cousin" by the Undertones, but perpetuated by the use of "Kev" (said in a gruff, deep, thick sounding voice, usually) as a term of abuse. I'm not sure abt Gavin...it was prolly never a popular enough name to begin with for ppl to formulate an opinion.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 15 September 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

a cute (in an "aw, look at those two older people!") couple.

hahaha.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 September 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Powell is lying in his biography, as I saw his mother pronounce it properly in an interview.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 15 September 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

in answer to the original question: search nasty killer of gay people colin ireland or colin stagg (i know nothing's been proved, but come on...) this will prove colins are about as nice as people called denis, fred or peter...
