i. she rang me to say so she is conscious and compos mentis
ii. she thinks she has broken nothing
iii. she has a badly grazed knee which is bleeding and bound up
iv. a neighbour is coming round later (originally to look after my invalid dad while mum went out): i said call her up and get her to come round now and see you're ok (and persuade you not to go out!)
v. she actually sounded quite chipper in a grumpy way so i don't think the damage is serious, though the stairs are long and she fell the whole way head over heels <:0
vi. her regular hospital tests all came back yesterday very positive :)

good lord mark! I'm glad
no major damage happened.
long-term, though: worried?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 13 September 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

well yes, though i think this was a classic "101 accidents that can happen in the home" (rather than eg encroaching physical or mental debility)

(ie she was carrying an awkwardly laden tray of stuff down from dad's room and didn't look exactly where her feet were going...) (the carer this morning had used the wrong tray - there's an easy-carry one with a handle and she forgot it)

(the carer is great and adores mum and will be totally mortified on monday morning)

:( One of my greatest fears is hurt for my family. Good thoughts.

I'm very glad this doesn't seem to have amounted to anything. As you probably know, my mother is about 85 and although I don't like her much, I still fear hearing about something like this for her.

I am glad to hear this has turned out just a little minor scrape. I hope your mum gets her friend to pop in.

Don't worry, Mark, Mums are bouncy and indestructible! It's in the job description :)

The fall must have shaken her up and given her quite a shock - I hope she has recovered now and hope her knee is better soon.

Good thoughts for Mama Sinker. (I await reports that she's fine before referencing Eddie Murphy's "Delerious" routine abt Aunt Bunny.)

i'm sorry mark :(

It's great that your mum's OK, Mark. I'm always terrified of getting a phone call like that - my mum has bad joints, especially first thing in the morning (the results of years of Judo), and seeing her coming downstairs step-by-step first thing is always a bit scary.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 14 September 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

mum says she's feeling a bit shaky today, but a neighbour is cooking all their meals (no carers on sunday) and tomorrow my aunt - who's a GP - is visiting

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 14 September 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(also it turned out the carer didn't use the wrong tray, that was mum's fault)

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 14 September 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry mark. hope all is well at home.
