doing laundry after someone else, dud or dud?

I know laundry is almost no-one's favorite chore but it is, oddly, one of mine; I like the feeling of accomplishment when my clothing is returned clean, dry, a fresh smelling. This makes me somewhat anal, agreed. But the actual fact of the shared laundry room really gets on my nerves, especially now that students are back who have obviously never had to do their own washing before. As a result, I'm always having to dump their wet clothes into the dryer because they leave them in the washing machine for half a day then go off to their Dave Matthews Band concerts or date rapes or whatever it is college students do these days. I just went into the laundry room and had to pull about three washloads worth of some bastard's tighty whiteys out of ONE washer; packed so fill with his filthy clothing that after a wash it was still smelly. I resisted the urge to toss them on the floor in a giant stinky bundle.
I then had to put my sheets in there. YEEECHHH. Thank god for bleach.

I've just gone down and they are still there, soggy on the table. Who is this person? Why would he subject his neighbors to this horror? Now I eye every man in the building with suspicion. "Are you the smelly brief wearer?" I think I know who it is.

My first year of college, some jerk in the dorms took my wet clothes out of the dryer and used my dollar to dry his own clothes. When I returned to the basement and discovered this, I just pulled all his dry clothes out of the dryer, threw them into a garbage can, and filled the can with water. I never had any problems after that.

Ever have that uncomfortable moment where you're removing someone's incredibly dry clothes from the dryer, or putting their wet clothes into a washer, so you can free space up for yourself, and then they walk in on you? Or vice versa, you've walked in on someone else doing the same with your clothes? I mean, it's a perfectly legit move, butt here's still that "I shouldn't be doing this..."/"Hey get yer paws off my clothes, fuckwad" vibe.

The one time this happened to me was on the morning of 9/11/01. I did some laundry and went back to the TV set, watching the horrible events unfold. When it was an hour later I went back to the laundry room and this guy (looked like a member of some lousy asshole band like the Dandy Warhols) was taking my laundry out. He froze, obviously startled. First thought that crossed my mind was "you're touching my laundry?? TODAY?!!"

The moment quickly passed as he shrugged and said "fucked up shit today, man." I nodded and he handed me his laundry. That was that.

thisjust happened. my neighbor walked in as i'm starting up the dryer. a very silent awkward moment of him seeing me there and then noticing his pile of dry clothes on top of the dryer. whatever, fuck you too buddy!

i have laundry in my building, but i go the laundromat, anyway. it's faster (i can do multiple loads at once) and i don't have to deal with stuff like this.

I don't geddit -- doesn't the person whose clothes are being removed just offer a quick apology for not getting there sooner? Sure, one can't always be there the INSTANT the dryer turns off so maybe if it's only a few minutes then the other person must be in quite a hurry, but in my case it's usually some time later because I'm disorganized like that. So I apologize and quickly get my stuff. What need for awkwardness?

I have a washing machine in my own bathroom, which avoids this kind of thing. But does sometimes result in spastic flooding all over me carpet :(

in this case his clothes had been sitting for at least an hour or more. i just wish dude had turned around and gone back inside to let me finish instead of standing right next to me making me feel awkward. it's sort of a small room. fuggin creep.

just went down to get my clothes and what do you know? they're sitting in a pile on the washer. circle of life.

one good thing about my impending move is that the only starting i'll have to worry about when laundring will be from the cats my friend keeps locked in the basement. those fuckers are a little creepy, though.

i left my towels in the dryer for three days and my nice upstairs neighbor folded them all up and put them in a bag for me! We left her a card. And she left one for us on our doorstep! I have obviously mellowed with regards to laundry since my initial post on this thread. Also, I have moved.

My former roommate used to occasionally forget her laundry into our washing machine when she went out for the night. Then I would call her: "Hi, love, are you gonna be out for all night? Should I put your clothes to dry before they start to smell?". I felt kinda like a housewife. But I like doing laundry, so it was okay.
