Marc Jacobs is going totally 30s; this will be the year of Depression Chic.

When aren't they....while dripping the diamonte into their cleavage?

With the holes in the shirts and shredded trousers screaming haute couture

Yeah, I made the mistake of going to Henry Bendel today and getting bombarded by the counter terrorists. Diane Furstenberg has a new line of cosmetics, don't you know. It was so bad, I pretended that I got a phone call while looking at her new line right by the door and managed to slip outside.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Russell Simmons [Def Jam, not JSBX] and The GZA milling about on Broadway/41st today. I guess for the Baby Phat show

tons and tons of color in the collections, I like fall so much better than spring.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 21 September 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I just don't like Zac Posen's stuff at all.. it always looks to me like something off a high-end vintage rack that was cut for a different figure and you try to tuck, hem, and arrange it but it never quite fits properly.

The I.O.C. Gatsby dresses are awesome. I've never really liked Marc Jacobs, his stuff looks kinda washed-out to me. Prouenza Schouler are TOP! check it

Lacoste! cool!

daria g (daria g), Sunday, 21 September 2003 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man, i met some tall swedes last night outside some bar, and it was totally like a sketch comedy routine. read this in your best/worst stereotypical swedish accent: "vee are sveedish models for vivienne vestovoood. vere is zee partee?"

fashion week is my fave week of the year, after FLEET WEEK.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 21 September 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

See... I'm a leg guy, and while the pictures always look good, all the models are always kinda brittle looking in person...

ModJ, Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

holy moly daria, those are some awful pants! see what I mean about all the grotesque color in the spring collections!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, some of the Lauren outfits are truly wretched. I like bright primary colors, not the ones that look like fruit punch. ugh.

daria g (daria g), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
fashion week again.. i-D 25 year exhibition tonite?

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 2 February 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

hoodies are over. that is my fashion diktat for next fall/winter. i don't know what will take its place, though.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 2 February 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

I hope it will be some variation of those sweaters that zip up into funnel-necks. I love those things. But seriously, folks...all I know about fashion week is that my cute gay boy friend down the street is losing his mind becauase he's doing lookbooks for, like, 7 designers.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 2 February 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

for some reason i got a bunch of invitations to fashion-for-old-ladies runway shows this season.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 2 February 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

Hi,

I'm Steve.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 3 February 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

killy (baby lenin pin), Friday, 3 February 2006 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 February 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 3 February 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 February 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

Shit, I can't drag Stacey out dancing until her shows are over. Stupid fashion week.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 3 February 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

what am i supposed to wear to a fashion show? does it matter?

killy (baby lenin pin), Friday, 3 February 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

wear whatever you want. no big deal. i have a za1dy invitation that i cant use if someone wants it. get back to me asap though

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 February 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

Goddamn I'm going to be working this shit for the next week. Did Kenneth Cole and John Bartlett today; Alice Roy and someone else tomorrow.

Jimmy Mod (I myself am lethal at 100 -110dB) (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Saturday, 4 February 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

I like 0120.

youn, Wednesday, 8 February 2006 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

WHY WILL THEY NOT APPEAR AFTER RE-SIZING?

Jimmy Mod (I myself am lethal at 100 -110dB) (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

(thank you)

Jimmy Mod (I myself am lethal at 100 -110dB) (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Thursday, 9 February 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

wow, these are great! I really love 0251. and 0039. And the lighting! (and, obv, your CAMERA and YOU.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Sunday, 12 February 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

(haha, i just noticed that that sounds more, uh, emotional than i meant it. i mean, the lighting, camera and you are responsible for the greatness and wow factor and my love for the photos. anyway... i just came back to look at the photos again and noticed that my ability to communicate today is off.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Sunday, 12 February 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome photos!

lyra (lyra), Monday, 13 February 2006 04:07 (nineteen years ago)

eleven months pass...
What are you guys into this season?

So far, my favorite collection for womenswear is Yeohlee, for menswear it's probably Thom Browne.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:57 (eighteen years ago)

things i liked from the fashion week

1) heathette doing patent leather sm harnesses in weird diagonals
2) michael kors black and white feathery abstract pattern
3) That maxi cardigan in heather grey by peter som, that looked like something that lee krasner would wear in the early 50s
4) Proenza Schouler's Clouches
5) http://www.style.com/slideshows/fashionshows/F2007RTW/RCHAI/RUNWAY/00050m.jpg
this by Richard Chai
6) the bright coloured details, orange socks, yellow beads, blue leggings, etc in the mostly black Y3 collection
7) a few of the v. polite cashmere dresses by behaz sarafpour
8) all of chaiken
9) the heavy plaid duffel coat by philosophy
10) the sillehoutes in the rodarte collection, maybe my favourite

things i didnt
1) tse's sexy monk thing
2) all that fucking grey
3) derek lams dresses and skirts
4) the make up and hair of do ri
5) monique huillers metallics
6) the rest of philosphy
7) the lack of diversity in the models
8) the harlqeuin pattern remix from the heatherettes

things i am confused about
the french maid costumes that betsy johnson pushed out
niscio rodiguez

pinkmoose (jacklove), Thursday, 8 February 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

i really liked erin featherston. i went to this show for a 21 year old hasidic designer last nite, levi okun0v. it was odd - the music was like the theme from schindler's list, and oksana baiul was skating around on this articifical ice strip thing. so so weird.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'm a huge fan of the cloche hat, so Marc Jacobs is winning for me at the moment.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

It looks like Marc jacobs put a serious smackdown...

If you fuck with Jimmy Mod, you call down the thunder (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:51 (eighteen years ago)

His colors suck, though.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

marc jacobs i did like, though it's a bit much to wear together unless one is older? but seemed very 40's to me, i liked the use of color.

i feel like rodarte designers are in way over their heads and should try to do something simple for once

haven't seen proenza yet.
nothing really blew me away though, i await paris..

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

:) I liked the accents in bright colors

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I liked the dull/bright thing. I thought the PS cloche hats were a bit tall and thin. Too Balenciaga (and I never liked that hat either).

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

just FYI for the dudes: NYC fashion week for men in first 2 weeks of january, and women is first 2 weeks of february.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

for fall that is.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

from the pictures i saw, p.s. had a few fantastic coats but otherwise blah. and their target collection is terrible.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

Mordy, Monday, 4 February 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

sure, I love this stuff.. Haven't seen anything that was my cup of tea but only looked at a few shows thus far.. I do not like Erin Fetherson's style at all. Should look at Rag & Bone again I think that was good.

daria-g, Monday, 4 February 2008 22:37 (seventeen years ago)

not loving proenza schouler this time. and suddenly I am stunned by just how skinny the models have become

surm, Friday, 11 September 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

isn't it always Fashion Week in Bryant Park?

Blow up the industry, and boil and eat the designers. Aristocratic fucking garbage, no place for it in the New Depression. I have no idea how these people sleep at night.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 September 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

omg

surm, Friday, 11 September 2009 14:27 (sixteen years ago)

sorry surm, but it's a biz of Marie Antoinettes imho

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 September 2009 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

i, for one, am grateful to have such beautiful things to look at in this time of confusion

surm, Friday, 11 September 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

i fall about halfway between you two. some of my friends and i are basically speaking entirely different languages this week

xuxa pitts (donna rouge), Friday, 11 September 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

Talk about the most transparently bullshit planned obsolescence, ie, high fashion + one year = bad fashion.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 September 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)

srsly morbs?

Batsman (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 11 September 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)

My sartorial role model is Bill Murray.

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 September 2009 14:55 (sixteen years ago)

it's just an industry, and it has its traditions the way any industry does. it doesn't have to mean much more than that.

surm, Friday, 11 September 2009 14:56 (sixteen years ago)

One year? Try three months.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 11 September 2009 15:05 (sixteen years ago)

Morbs, I'll be sure to pass on these cutting-edge criticisms to my pals in the front row mmmmkay?

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Friday, 11 September 2009 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

heh heh, I'm going to self-censor what you can pass on to them...

A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 September 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

I am really excited for a friend of mine who is an aspiring stylist and photographer. She's working fashion week as a dresser and spent the afternoon with Gwen S (who she <3s) and Gavin R. yesterday at the L.A.M.B. presentation. This is seriously a dream come true for her and most be such an awesome experience.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 11 September 2009 16:08 (sixteen years ago)

you know, the film industry wastes billions of dollars a year. cancel the oscars!

tehresa, Friday, 11 September 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

^LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

The older I get, the less annoyed I become with the way the fashion system works. It frankly does bother me that it's basically every person that was ever picked on in school organizing themselves like courtiers in the age of the sun king (pretentious, outdated social model), but surprising people within the industry are a lot cooler than you'd expect. Obviously because of my job I know most of the best photographers and stylists and they are never the idiots, it's always their hangers-on or the agents or PRs or whatever; special place in hell for the sort of PR who starts moving goalposts when you've turned up to do an interview that's been arranged by someone more important. Last time this happened, PR tried to emotionally blackmail me into less time w/a model because the model's child was fluey and actually said 'I don't know if you've got children...' as the opener in bid for compliance. No sale, model was oblivious to the machinations and wound up giving me double the time I'd originally thought I'd need because we just sat there giggling together and going off on tangents.

I interviewed Gwen once and from what I could work out about her in that limited context, she was funny and nice.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Friday, 11 September 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

suzy u should hang out with me :)
