Apparently last night on the OC they played Deathcab for Cutie. Did anyone see this? I did not, my friend told me about it. It seems very weird to me. Anyone else?

― Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

they probably did, I don't see why it's that weird, Death Cab are hardly that big a secret any more and the OC has played other indie music in the background.

― anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

well, having never seen the show, i was unaware of that fact. who else has been heard?

― Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

summer bagged on them;
seth said "hey! don't mess with
deathcab!" all offended

― Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

― Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

― Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought this said "Deathcab for Cutie in Oz"

― Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 17 September 2003 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

OC= Ocean City, there's a thread, it's a new TV show.
TJ= Tijuana, according to the people from OC.
Summer said something like, it's just whining and guitars.
The ending was very Pre-Raphealite, with the kid from the street carrying the near-death model who wants to be an actress. Will she survive?

― Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

you're thinking of 'river city', perhaps.

the OC=the orange county?

― RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Deathcab for Cutie on the (OC = OxyContin.) hee hee.

― Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep, I meant Orange County, brain still jetlagged...

― Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Why did they play Death Cab for Cutie though? I bought a Death Cab for Cutie album, coz they got compared to Elfpower, but they were nothing like elfpower, and ended up only listening to the album twice.

― jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

which album? i would say "We have the facts and we're voting yes" is their best. with "the photo album" a close second. i haven't heard the new one, "transatlanticism", yet though. why did you only listen twice?

― Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

The kid who used to be on Gilmore Girls is a bit of an indie rocker/nerd, yet has some chemistry with some bitch Valley Girl. Everyone! If they are still playing the reruns on Mon nights, just watch the show...

― Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Which kid from Gilmore Girls?

― jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, speaking of Gilmore Girls, I no longer think it's weird when indie-rock bands are featured or referenced on TV. (Lane to Rory: "I just HAVE to get the new Belle and Sebastian single!")

― jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

And you can't turn on NPR without hearing incidental music from some groovy but non-intrusive post-rock band.

― jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Lane's boyfriend is now a leading character on OC.

― Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

my vcr died and I missed last week's episode, someone please tell me how it all went down with grandpa and his slutty girlfriend.

― anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, I like We Have the Facts least of all their albums. I mean, I very much enjoy all of them, but I find that I listen to that one the least.

Transatlanticism is quite a powerful piece of work compared to their earlier efforts (aside from some shiny pieces off of The Photo Album), but the production is so vastly different from the earlier stuff that it's certain to alienate some old fans. On the other hand, it will almost certainly make some detractors reconsider them.

As far as I'm concerned, The Photo Album and Transatlanticism (and maybe Something About Airplanes) are the essential releases.

haha the idea of a fox show about ocean city makes me so happy

― gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

That's more of a WB show I guess.

― Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 22:07 (twenty-three years ago)

this show just keeps getting better and better! last night's episode was great!

― s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

this is the show with p.gallagher on it, yes? i watched the "tj" episode this week but couldn't follow it at all! - how anyone can concentrate on a plotline knowing that gallagher's EYEBROWS might come leaping out at them at any moment is completely beyond me

― jones (actual), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought this said "Deathcab for Cutie in Oz"

they've already been. ben gibbard broke the hearts of every quote-unquote indie girl in town. the fucker.

― the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

gallagher is pretty incredible in the show, I think it may be his finest moment

― s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

b-but Summer Lovers (1982)

― jones (actual), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i rewatched The Underneath last week per the soderbergh thread and it was kind of crap too :(

― jones (actual), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

this show is very compelling. the director really gets some great shots for television. and its especially good when it avoids going for the teenage girl jugular (slo-mo Ryan saves suicidal girl to mazzy star). to be honest im not sure whether i think its over-the-top or i admire its hubris.

and the suicide attempt was, let's face it, unforgivable. i hope the show recovers

― ryan (ryan), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Who is Peter Gallagher? What else has he done? I find him major annoying in this show.

― Mary (Mary), Thursday, 18 September 2003 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

It was a really early DCforC album, "something about airplanes", it was just kinda tinny.

― jel -- (jel), Thursday, 18 September 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Peter Gallagher: http://imdb.com/name/nm0001251/

i know him from Center Stage and Mister Deeds

OMG he was Stormy Weather in Short Cuts -- the world as I know it has lost all meaning...

― Mary (Mary), Thursday, 18 September 2003 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

this show really puts the world in order for me.

― amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 19 September 2003 04:47 (twenty-three years ago)

― s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 19 September 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, I never get tired of that one

― s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 19 September 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

This show has been my Buffy-less existence savior.

― Carey (Carey), Monday, 13 October 2003 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Carey, no. Try One Tree Hill instead.

― Mary (Mary), Monday, 13 October 2003 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

But Mary,

This is how we do it in the OC, bitch!

― Carey (Carey), Monday, 13 October 2003 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it back is it back yet?

― s1utsky (slutsky), Monday, 13 October 2003 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

What night is it on, anyway?

― Mary (Mary), Monday, 13 October 2003 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

It was on Tuesdays but I think they moved it to Wednesday.
