Way to go, dink! I wanted to see how many new threads could go unanswered!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 19 September 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
My mom has had a cell phone for several years now. I just sent her her first text message; she needed to know the mileage and license-plate number on my car, so I checked this morning and texted her with the info. She called me at lunch to let me know she had received it and seemed very amused by the whole thing.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

text messaging is my new preferred method of communication. international texting is so awesome, and from cingular, only $.20 per.

carly (carly), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

This thread is grebt.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

It's weird. I can only receive text messages on my cellphone, but I can't send. Just in case I needed to look any more snobby toward my friends...

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Lots of people tell me that. And then I text them. And then they're all like "why are you texting me when you know I can't send texts?" And I'm all "you can read, right? so now I can tell you whatever I want and you can't bug me with a response."

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

haha, spitetexting.

carly (carly), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

An anonymous friend of mine sent a lascivious text to his wife's phone (possibly something about beating that pussy up). Of course, she has some fancy phone that she was using for a conference call speakerphone during a meeting with some political colleagues. And of course, the message came through and automatically displayed, backlit and everything. Sweet!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Ha. I tried to send a text message to Teeny once recently when I was drunk. It said "what up beeyotch?" About twenty minutes later, I get a phone call that looks to be from her. A dude barks at me, "Who you callin' a beeyotch?" I say, "Haha. Uh." "Well?" "Is L--- there?" "No." "Wrong number?" "Apparently."

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

You need one of those cell phones with the breathalyzer built in.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

My boss shares a full first name with Ally C, and I have, on occasion, accidently texted my boss rude and abusive messages about football.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

You also need one of those cell phones with the breathalyzer built in.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

I am going to make a mint off this thing.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

You may also need one of those vibrators to plug in to your vibrating cell phone.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

am0n, Sunday, 12 July 2009 19:36 (sixteen years ago)

no (pause to reflect) it can just stay there

am0n, Sunday, 12 July 2009 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

Now, I don't wish injury on anyone, but this is really the sort of thing that needs to happen more often. As our lives become more absorbed in technology that keeps us from having to interact with others face-to-face, people are becoming increasingly unaware of their surroundings. To the extent that others walking directly and unknowingly into me is an occurrence I'd label 'frequent'. I honestly don't know how some people make it through a day without being gravely injured or killed.

Crude Robot Senses (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 12 July 2009 19:51 (sixteen years ago)

a few weeks ago a woman almost swerved into me while texting, then over corrected herself and ran into a light pole. When I stopped to make sure she was ok, her hand was gripping her cell phone so tightly, almost like a claw.

Jacob Sanders, Sunday, 12 July 2009 20:34 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah Ive been in TAXIs where the driver's tried to SMS with one hand while moving... never impressed with that shit.I mean talking on the phone's bad enough but to text you have to look away from the road!

lolsbury hill (Trayce), Monday, 13 July 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, was sayin' last week ..

Guy in white van on phone, overtakes dramatically a guy on a bike on the phone, who nearly hits a pedestrian crossing who is texting.

Mark G, Monday, 13 July 2009 08:17 (sixteen years ago)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 13 July 2009 08:37 (sixteen years ago)

i've watched that clip three times. the accent, the staten island accent, it's just amazing.

omg the sewer workers walked TEN FEET to go get the cones from their van! it's so irresponsible of them to leave a small hole in the ground unattended for two entire minutes. you never know who might be texting obliviously!

billy mumia (get bent), Monday, 13 July 2009 08:40 (sixteen years ago)

especially a small hole with a ladder on the side that a person might clutch on to if said person were falling.

billy mumia (get bent), Monday, 13 July 2009 08:44 (sixteen years ago)

I guess Mel Brooks was right re: comedy vs. tragedy.

Chubby Checker Psycho (Pancakes Hackman), Monday, 13 July 2009 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

looooool: "If there's cones, I'm gonna see a big orange cone!" Even though you couldn't see a hole in the ground big enough to fall into.

TS: "Down she went, five feet, into the muck" vs. "Into the mud, scum queen!"

Chubby Checker Psycho (Pancakes Hackman), Monday, 13 July 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)

Exactly.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 13 July 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)

touch fuzzy, get dizzy (cozwn), Monday, 13 July 2009 13:19 (sixteen years ago)

I'm just shocked that she's talking to the news about it. I mean, maybe she thinks the publicity will help her lawsuit or something, but she's never gonna live it down at school.

Nothing a "$879,000,023 medical bills and emotional distress + 1 shoe" damages claim lawsuit won't fix.

StanM, Monday, 13 July 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

manholes needed another knock-off tory burch flat

lollest thing said yet, imo

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Monday, 13 July 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

"Going Underground"

Mark G, Monday, 13 July 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)

Good thing she was out in Staten, because if she was in Manhattan, the C.H.U.D.s would have got her, iirc.

canks for the mammaries (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 13 July 2009 14:32 (sixteen years ago)

C.H.U.D. lol!!

Increasingly intelligent smartphones may soon be able to prevent people from texting while drunk
