If I only watch one film

I was thinking of renting a DVD today, since I have time to kill. I have seen plenty of films really, I just seldom go to the cinema cos usually I am disappointed. This might be to do with being recommended crap though.

So ILX, what film should I watch which will shock and astound me? Keep in mind that like with most artforms the less into it you are the more chance you have of being blown away!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

how embarassing this was meant for ILE. ah well go for it ILM.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Embarrassed even more yet? And have you seen 'Dead Ringers'?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I saw the Underworld thread and got a shock. ok I retract my embarassment and replace it with a new worse one.

No I haven't seen that Andrew.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

La Grande bouffe. You rarely see a film where four bored bourgeois men try to eat and fuck themselves to death. Plus it's a great flick as well.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, isn't this ile?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well 'Dead Ringers' shocked and astounded me a fair bit when I first saw it, but I was pretty young. It's still a fantastic movie, though.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yes it is ile i got confused. please everyone pretend nothing happened.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Is L'Homme Du Train out on DVD/video yet? If it is, that's a great view.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Battle Royale?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

*ahem, starts whistling*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i really think you should watch dead ringers - it's an amazing film and scared the living shit out of me.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

also breathless (as in a bout de souffle not the richard gere one) is a totally classic. possibly the coolest movie ever made.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

You've probably seen it but if not, take out the delux DVD edition of Manhunter, with the added documentaries. Watch the docs first, which will have you gagging for the film, then sit back and enjoy.

"Do you see?"

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 19 September 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So ILX, what film should I watch which will shock and astound me?

Call me obvious, but... City of God?

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

queen of the damned!!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 19 September 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

if you only watch one film that film should clearly be La Jetee.

ryan (ryan), Friday, 19 September 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark you have a book to write, stop being wacky

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 September 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 September 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 19 September 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Belay that order.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 September 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

which order?

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to say Queen of the Damned! No fair. Failing that Ghostbusters or Ratcatcher. The latter is my favourite film but that's probably for reasons of poignancy / self-identity more than anything and I'm not sure how well they'd transfer.

Have you heard of Angela's Ashes?

David. (Cozen), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

umbrellas of cherbourg

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Pat.

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But only the extended director's cut.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

The one book you should read is The Making Of It's Pat.

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

So Chris, who's read the MST3K episode guide more, then, you or I?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Which of us owns two copies?

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

You are SICK LIKE DOG. Well done.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 September 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

We're talking about Cronenberg's Dead Ringers? It's one of my favorite movies, but if I had to recommend ONE film to see, I'm not sure it's that. It will, however, shock and astound you.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 19 September 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I will try and get Dead Ringers this evening.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 20 September 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Wayne's World 2. Oh how you will laugh, or Todd Solondz's happiness Grosse Point Blank is heaps of fun as well.
or THE LABRYNTH... yay!

Nellie (nellskies), Saturday, 20 September 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It should be Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Or The Princess Bride. No-one can watch these too much.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 20 September 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)
