Saw this last night. On first impression, it was fucking gnarly. Angela Bettis or whatever her name is gave a ridiculously solid performance. However, it brought out so many conflicting emotions in me, I'm not sure I exactly like it, I just know it was powerful and got a visceral reaction outta me.

So yeah, let's discuss this.

Also, Lucky McKee, director. Ain't never seen any of his other work. What's up with this guy?

Hmmm... I haven't seen May, but I've looked at the dvd case and put my hand on my chin and said, "hmmm..." several times when looking for something to rent.
Someone else picked it up beside me last time and asked the girl at the counter about it. She said she hadn't seen it but she'd only heard back things. This coming from a punk rock chick who works in a very independent mom and pop's video store. So I wasn't planning on renting it, but you think I should?

What would you compare it to? Is it 'visceral' like Doom Generation? If so, I don't think I could handle it.

I haven't seen Doom Generation, so I don't know. I guess the best I can explain it without spoiling anything is just to say that it's set up in a way that the audience is very sympathetic to the main character (May), who is simultaneously a total sweetie and a complete psychopath.

I guess as far as comparisons go I might say it's somewhere between Punch Drunk Love and American Psycho?
