this just happened to pashmina too - not sure whether he got it sorted but thread here: having email spammers use your domain name as a spoof "from" address in theis skanky viagra unsolicited bulk emails dud or the fukcing duddest thing in thee world ever?

i don't understand this either, most likely you are the only person receiving this, some spammer has you in an email index somewhere. I get a bunch of these as well. I think there are some mailservers that generate spam that have a virus on them. this particular symptom does not match correctly with any of the current crop of viruses that I keep reading about, yet it's been happening to me for about a year.

Just create a filter for the "undeliverable" subject line and dunk them to your trash and hope for the best. eventually it will die down.

yeah maura i'm getting the same thing due to the microsoft security patch virus. i think my box might even be infected. (yr. still not on unpopular hosting are you?)Ë™

(no sterling i got kicked off unpopular about two years ago, ha. i should tell you about it sometime, it's like passive-aggressive internet 101)

how can i create a subject-line filter in procmail?

bummer, especialy as verisign has broken a number of spam gaurds so that spammers don't need to do this right now.

If you have a nice ISP hosting your domain, you can ask them if they'll filter it out at their level. Might not work if you're on a big one, they'd laugh at you, but a small mom & pop one probably could easily handle it. Then it'd never reach your inbox & you wouldn't need to filter it out.

Hey Maura--the EXACT same thing just happened to me with l*c*n**. Different subject line & address for each one. AAUGH! If you figure out what to do, let me know.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

its gotta be this new fucking virus.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

As noted above, thee exact same thing happened to me. Abt the only upside is that it stopped after about 4 days. All you can do is keep deleting, or create a temporary killfile for the subj header "message undeliverable". sorry to hear about it maura - it fukcing sucks.

i think that .procmail info worked -- thanks!! someone respammed with my address this weekend -- i've been awash in AOL bounces for the past three days. like, about 1500 total. is there any way i can sue these people for restraint of trade or something? i do use maura.com in professional capacities.

maura (maura), Monday, 29 September 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

IANAL, but if you can track them down, and would be willing to endure the court proceedings, then you could most probably extract a sum of money out of them. It probably isn't worth it, though.

I've recently registered a domain name purely for email which I'm never, ever going to allow be written on a web page anywhere. I only tell people my address in person, over the phone, or via personal email.

Yeah I noticed that the minuted you use an email address on a web page, usenet forum, web board, etc etc, then thats it - spam city.

Interestingly, my regular email address only started getting spam (and only a little) after I started using it on ILX (which I quickly stopped again). I assumed that the non-logged in munging would protect it, and it seems I was wrong.. oh well. Its nothing severe. I'm not blaming anyone but me, I should know better! heh.
