The most heart breaking film because it shows how ordinary love is. We expect a confection, and its center is not cherries but dust .

well cheeries have pits in the centre anyways. Love may have a dusty centre but its gold dust

it is such a sad movie . It has Catherine Denuve giving up on love for secuirty and wealth. That scene at the end at the esso with the black mercedes and the white esso .

Beautiful colours, but where were the songs? Just a vaguely melodic libretto. Great story though, I'll concede.

Has anybody seen 'Jacquot de Nantes', a biopic of Demy by his wife (I think), Agnes Varda? Luuuuurvely.

Will McKenzie, Friday, 28 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That was the point, it was an existenstal opera , not a hollywood musical.

a hiphop versh has been rattling around my head for years now. Usher plays the diamond dealer.

How can anything existential have a point?

Is it true that Catherine Deneuve reveals herself to be a complete airhead in her recently published autobiography?

Her autobiography is apparently just a collection of random notes and ephemera that was never supposed to be released and was never edited, but she reluctantly agreed to issue it to stem the tide of unauthorised biographies and whatnot. It's not a proper autobiography by any means.

As for the movie -- fucking brilliant. One of my five favourite films.

And Anthony, quite OTM.

I just heard the theme song of the related movie Les Demoiselles De Rochefort on the excellent album Camino Del Sol by Antena.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Rochefort is pretty good too. Gene Kelly actually has a small role in it.

jedidiah (jedidiah), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Rochefort is fantastic, and Antena's cover of the theme is just slightly better than the original because Isabelle's a better vocalist.
