Anyone else seen this? I loved it. Georgie Clooneys directorial debut. Based on the book by Chuck Barris, creator of numerous game shows and host of the legendary "Gong Show". Also a complete loon if you ask me.

Sam Rockwell=brilliant. Again, check out the Sam Rockwell screen test extra for some great dance moves.

I fucking hate Drew Barrymore, especially in this movie.

Oh yeah, and Julia Roberts is lame too.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

But the rest of the movie was ok.

Yeah I hate them both as well. But I liked the rest like you said.

had a possible reading of it that would hinge on the (complete + abrupt) shift from lighthearted to grotesque after the girl in the swimming pool tells barris his work is worthless, but i forget what it was. nevertheless a v. good movie. hrm.

decent movie.
I hate Julia Roberts too.
I really like Sam Rockwell. Most cuz his name is Rockwell.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 25 September 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I've liked Drew Barrymore in one movie ever (Donnie Darko). This was too long, but still a good movie.

Just saw this. Not without faults but after slow start, I was drawn in. Can't decide if the early segments were sloppily directed or if Clooney deliberately wanted to open v. slowly, but there's definitely an acceleration curve at work. Rockwell is amazingly good.

Anyone care to take a swing at decoding the colors? Why are the scenes in the 60's (especially with Penny) sort of washed out/overcolored? I think it follows a general arrow of later chronology=sharper picture, but I'm not certain.

Oh and Clooney is great. Can't decide if his horrible fake mustache was just him being goofy or a tip that all is not right.

Aha! This is the movie that I felt cheated out of by A Beautiful Mind! Beautiful Mind sets up this fascinating situation with a strange, talented man plucked out for a special government service, top secret diddly doo- and then whoops! It's not real. Sorry you got excited. Whereas Confessions, the top secret dealy-doo might not be real but either way you get the thrill of seeing the balancing act. (oddly the similar titles had nothing to do with how I connected them, I hit on it b/c I was thinking of Chuck doing his rifle training on the commie targets which somehow led me to Beautful Mind.)

Finally saw this by chance tonight. Personally I thought it was great. I admit though to being perversely amused by the plopped-down cameos of Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Michael Cera trying to get a girl to suck his dick for a dollar = kinda crepey.

it's a bit long and Roberts sucks per usual, but I really loved this movie. Rockwell's portrayal of Barris the anti-hero/ perennial loser, esp during the first part of the film is heartbreakingly great. Also, check my co-worker's version of "Experiment in Terror" with his lol 90's R&B/ surf rock instr. garage combo Impala! (not on the CD though)

Coming off the critical success of Fisher Stevens’ drama film Palmer, Justin Timberlake has found his next collaboration with Apple TV+ in the form of a brand new drama series based on Chuck Barris’ 1984 memoir Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Deadline reports that Apple has successfully acquired the script at an auction and is planning to develop the project into an hour-long drama series.

Timberlake has officially signed on to the role of Barris, who claimed that he was a CIA assassin moonlighting as a game show host.
