Secret Army - classic or dud

the now sadly forgotten template for Allo Allo had essentially the same plot but was set in Brussels and not done for laughs (not being a comedy). from memory it was actually quite grim, and good for making you glad you hadn't lived through the war.

It was particularly good for the infighting between the Gestapo and the Abwehr, the latter being a bunch of pinko anti-Nazi degenerates who kept getting purged.

does anyone else remember this programme?

Dammit, I had money on you starting this thread yesterday.

So... you *don't* mean FAIRLY Secret Army, 'starring' Geoffrey Palmer? [Mike to thread.]

if you look here it would appear that Anthony Head was in it. And Stephen "Howards Way" Yardley.

It was excellent - required viewing on my house. I remember one where the resistance were hiding in a field and literally got pi$$ed on and didn't reveal their position to the urinating soldier. Strange how you remember these things.

and thus a nazi watersport fetish was born...

I remember the credits...appropriately doom-laden music and a long road with an avenue of trees.

not arseing about now, it was a pretty great series as i seem to remember. my parents loved it and let me stay up to watch it but it may be less good now - somethimes things like that are...

Did the Secret Army fight in the Secret Wars DV?

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 25 September 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm - "the memory cheats" (Tom will know what I mean).

Really excellent opening titles. Quite surprised it's never been scheduled for DVD release.

Did the Secret Army fight in the Secret Wars DV?

they were too secret for that.

funnily enough they weren't really an army as such. they were more like an underground railroad (only not actually a railroad or indeed not actually underground).

I watched some episodes of Secret Army when it was repeated on UK Drama a while back. Great series.

The first season is coming out on DVD (Region 2)next month.

two years pass...
I've just watched the complete series on DVD for the third time now. Am I the only one who owns/likes this series?

I used to love it when I was a kid. I remember the scene where one of the women is attacked as a collaborator and has all her hair cut off and I was very upset about that because I was only small and she was a hero and why would they cut off all her hair?

I was only nine.
