As far as Republicans go, Ridge seems to be OK. He's a Northeastern
Rockefeller Republican, more in line with the likes of Christie
Whitman, George Pataki, and fellow Pennsylvanian Arlen Spector, than
the Southern/Western GOP wackjobs like Jesse Helms or Trent Lott.
He's also pretty popular in Pennsylvania, even among Democrats, and
seems to have done a good job as governor. That's as much as I know
about him.
My own opinion, though, is that the office he's been appointed to is
kinda dodgy by its very nature. It has the potential to corrupt
anyone, to nurture one's innate dictatorial tendencies, whether it
would be Ridge or someone like Mario Cuomo. Just my two cents.
