SACKED!

Just got canned from my job of several years. It's kind of a relief, really, as I'd been looking to get out of graphic design for some time and it's just too hard to leave a decent paying job. Between unemployment and some $avings, I should be OK for a few months if I'm kind of skin-flinty.

The question: what kind of things would you do if you were suddenly blessed with some extra time but not much money to blow. In New York. That is, on any given morning when you're dragging your sorry ass to work, where would you rather be going?

I'd hope the weather was nice & sunny & go for a long walk on some tree-lined street.

Before I buy anyone any lunches, I've probably got to milk the sympathy lunch train for a bit...

Being out of work as a graphic designer in San Francisco, I've done nothing with my time worth speaking of. It's really quite awful. Too bad I'm not in Manhattan though; at least I'd take Phil out for lunch.

sorry to hear that octothorpe. spent a long time out of work after having a similar position. just make sure you don't sink into a rut, try and freelance maybe? you'll be fine i thinks.

OTM stevem. It's a luxury at first, but time passes quickly. Not as fast as money passes out of your account, though. Look for another job right away, then try to defer your start date as long as possible. Knowing you have a job to go to is like a looooong vacation. No job on the horizon is, well, kind of scary after a while.

Go get Sri Lankan food on Staten Island!
