a fond dream has become a nightmare. my boston red sox have made the playoffs but i'm stuck in the land of cricket and bubble and squeak!! with the first game an already-ungodly 10pm EST, that puts Pedro's first pitch at 3am GMT. since not even i am die-hard enough to stay up until 6:30 to watch the final out recorded, i'm wondering if there's a place that might show a repeat of these games?

Five is the only channel that shows baseball here i think, from around 1am but not sure exactly which nights - check the TV schedules to see if they've covering it live or otherwise

Baseball - that's like rounders with padding, isn't it?

On a positive side: I had to suffer when the world cup was on and I was in canada studying last summer so now you know how i feel.

but yeah, channel five is the way to go so i hope you suffer from insomnia.

listen to it on the internet - it makes you feel like you're living in the 1940s and the 2040s at the same time!

bnw i kiss you!!!!!!!!!!

cinni i listen to it on the radio anyway, often in tandem with the TV, old curmudgeon-style, because w/Yankee games the commentary usually outshines the TV bozos. Maybe I should pay for the radio stream AND the TV stream on my computer!! Orrrrr not.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 28 September 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, as much as I hate the Yankees, Sterling is a dream to listen to.

Well, after taking the bus down to "Bodean's" - a barbecue place off Oxford St - at the wrong time of day Saturday to check out the game (Bodean's is known for televising American "sport") I went back yesterday at the RIGHT time only to find the sets tuned into a Miami Dolphins game, and a huge lug-headed contingent of beady-eyed ex-linemen staring intently at the screen and asking the staff to change the volume. The manager told me I could try "Cheers bar," apparently modelled not on the Bull and Finch but the actual set of Cheers. He said they always show "sport" inside. It was a 10 minute walk to Picadilly Circus. I found it, walked inside - and it was a remarkable recreation. They had the square bar, ferns, everything. All the screens were showing English Premiere League soccer!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh poor Sam Malone, we hardly knew ye. Anyway he recommended "The Sports Cafe," five minutes away, and that was the place - it had a zillion different screens, and most of them were showing As/Sox. The place was jammed with Americans, most of them Sox fans. I talked for quite a while with a guy from Nottingham who had come dressed in full Sox regalia; he said he followed the games on the Internet audio feeds and late-night Channel 5 airings. One guy was in town on business and his whole family was actually at the game. He phoned them a few times - "Nixon misplayed that, right??"

You know, Ortiz is still only batting 1 for 17! What a lousy hitter!!

I could careless if he is 1-17 Tracer, his only hit was huge!

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 6 October 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey Tracer if you'd only listened to me when I answered this question in the pub, you'd have gone straight to the Sports Bar. I did warn you about its nastiness though.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 6 October 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim I knew about the Sports Bar. I just didn't want to know that I knew.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 6 October 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh fair enough then.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 6 October 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It was like Hooters with more shouting.

Chris u know I love the Cookie Monster, I was kidding!!

Nomar for Tejada straight up - does anyone see any reason not to make this trade? Nomar's hardly the irreplaceable sprocket people make him out to be.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 6 October 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

he is very NOT the "cowboy up" type - his sang-froid is DiMaggian in scale
