Premiership Predictions - Round 07 (w/c Sat 4 Oct, 2003)

this week the scoreboard is brought to you in stunning Excel-O-Vision

http://base58.com/ilx/ilxpp20030928.gif

scores as ever: 10 points for exact score match, 5 points for predicting winning team and their correct score only, 3 points for predicting winning team only, 3 points for predicting an unexact draw but 5 point bonus for predicting a 0-0 successfully

new rule comes into force: anyone who doesn't enter for 4 consecutive rounds in a row gets their score and name wiped off the board, seems reasonable...

onwards...

Sat Oct 04 2003
Liverpool v Arsenal
Fulham v Leicester
Leeds v Blackburn
Man Utd v Birmingham
Newcastle v Southampton
Portsmouth v Charlton
Tottenham v Everton
Wolves v Man City

Sun Oct 05 2003

Aston Villa v Bolton

Tue Oct 14 2003
Birmingham v Chelsea

NOT WITHOUT MY BONUS: after Tuesday's game I'll add up the total number of goals scored this round and each person's predicted equivalent. whoever matches exact or closest will have that tally added to their points (example: 29 goals are scored, and your predictions add up to 29 also - you get an additional 29 points in addition to whatever you score for correct results). spicy!

hint - because this bonus relies on lots of goals being scored for best effect, you may wish to predict lots of 0-0s in accordance with Sod's Law

good luck

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 September 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

apologies to matt coastal as there was a typo in his prediction for the Everton-Leeds game and i didn't spot this until yesterday. do check your entries after posting (and check the scoreboard for mistakes - i think i actually pulled it off without cocking up this week however)

it's Turkey v England btw (how could we forget it's an AWAY match for England and they could face BEING KICKED OUT OF EURO 2004 because of some slight crowd trouble and player fracas at the home fixture - which never happens with Turkey and anyone else, oh no), never mind...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 2 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm definitely going to wait til AFTER midweek games before predicting from now on (goal-gluts from all the Champions League teams now seem far more likely)

Martin I'm reluctant but don't suppose it would do any harm at this point so okay

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 October 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

My prediction is that the Premiership will not be shown on telly because of slanderous chants.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 3 October 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh! I did pretty well so far!

Good old David Pleat!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 4 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

and Freddie Kanoute! 6 goals in 8 games or something like that.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 4 October 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

jel roars into 12th after bagging a huge 36 points...haikunum becomes the first person to score a big fat ZERO - but the round's not over yet

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 4 October 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
shit shit shit shit shitty shit
god damn hell poop crap

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 4 October 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

thank gawd for Bartlett's last minute winner, tho i am sad that Portsmouth can no longer win games

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 4 October 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

james, billy dods and scott pl all win the bonus - a big fat 24 points to each of them for matching the exact amount of goals scored this weekend

as a result, the scoreboard now looks like this

http://base58.com/ilx/ilxpp07.gif

round 8 coming soon...

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 5 October 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Excellent, I'm back in business again after a piss-poor last five rounds. Would've been even better if Angel was capable of scoring from 12 yards (but then I guess I wouldn't have got the goals bonus).

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 6 October 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Tuesday's game off??

jel -- (jel), Monday, 6 October 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Tuesday the 14th, Jel - that was why Steve dropped it from this round.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 6 October 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Verily I am the Kimi Raikkonen of the list - Mr Consistency itself !

darren (darren), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, are we going to do PROPER FOOTBALL predictions this week?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/conf_fixtures/default.stm

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Good idea!

I can't see Tamworth beating Barnet.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

God, my position in both leagues at the moment is hugely flattering to my actual footballing knowledge... I'm expecting to get found out at any moment now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Conference Predictions bonus round coming soon I promise ;)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i was trying to work out how 212 + 21 cd possibly equal 225 but then i realised it's the totalizer at the top which is wrong :(

also, to repeat question of sep 29th upthread, are my 5 points included now please, stevem?

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

according to the predictions entered into that week on the spreadsheet, you have the correct amount of points for round 5 zebedee which was 28 - 15 points for the Man U v Arsenal game, 10 points for the Wolves v Chelsea game and 3 for something else i can't remember off the top of my head. so what's the problem?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, does anyone want to play this instead, the official predictions game. i've created a mini-league already (called ILX Fanny Danglers) so come join me there. i don't have as much time to run this one now but could maybe continue for a bit longer...might be worth it carrying on due to the novel bonus bits and different points allocation, but the official one at http://iknowthescore.premierleague.com may be the way to go in the long run.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 12 October 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I've applied to join ILX Fanny Danglers, but nothing happened, at least nothing I could see. Also, it does say that sexually explicit terminology is not allowed, so 'Fanny Danglers' might come in for investigation by the F.A.

I see they have a 'Joker' system.

I have very much enjoyed this game, except the week I forgot to play. My brief spell at the top of the league was one of the highlights of my life. Also, it is homely and there's the chance to insult each other after each round. I shall miss it when it goes.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 13 October 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

well i only said maybe...strangely i got a mail from 'danikill' to join the 'dave' min-league but i'm not sure who's behind that

i've just accepted you to the ILX league anyway pj - it seems that because i started the league only i can let people in

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, thanks. Sounds fair enough.

Tamworth *did* beat Barnet.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)
