Why are we supposed to believe that blackouts are not terrorism or its precursor?

I mean, I understand coincidence and correlation and story cycles, but really, wtf?

Blame privatisation not terrorists.

Privatization is assuredly a problem (though there are others in the US). But I have yet to see anyone say that they know what started the US blackout.

Apparently, this began when a tree hit a line in Switzerland. And Italy also has spent too little on its grid. So alarmism is probably unwarranted. Though there does appear to be some dispute about the cause. And it wouldn't be hard to hit a line with a tree at the same time that someone hacks into grid computers. < /paranoia>

six months pass...
Explosion at Texas refinery, third largest in the US, days after FBI warnings about threats to same.

More about the "Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades", which may not even exist, but claimed responsibility for the blackout and Madrid bombing.

I was in waterstone's, on sauchiehall street, today, and the lights and music and air conditioning blinked off and back on. it was scary and they'd just played 'apology accepted', by the go-betweens.

wow, that texas thing is crazy.

I wonder what the refinery article means about 'recent FBI warnings', because after 9/11, people in south Chicago and NW Indiana were warned about possible attacks at the huge BP Whiting refinery (not far from where I live, either).
