I gotta say, I didn't mind the lenght of it at all - it moves along quite nicely, there's nothing languid at all about it. That being said, "Kelly's Heroes" is definitley up next on my MANLY MACHO MOVIE MONANZA.

I wonder if people creaming over a certain new film have seen this.

everyone has seen this.
― scott seward, Monday, 24 August 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)
morbz maybe you should see IB before it annoys you into having another aneurysm
― 'steen suicide (don't drive it) (s1ocki), Monday, 24 August 2009 02:13 (sixteen years ago)
does IB have Telly Savalas, Lee Marvin and John Cassavetes in it?
― free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Monday, 24 August 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)
Anyway ... on the DVD I have of Dirty Dozen, there's this promotional featurette about the film, that is partly following the actors around while they hang out in London, and keeps repeating the phrase, "Action Guys."

I've never had an aneurysm, my doc musta sent the wrong chart.
Anyway I didn't particularly like The Dirty Dozen the one time I saw it; likely Bob Aldrich made 15-20 better films.
― Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Monday, 24 August 2009 04:31 (sixteen years ago)
The Dirty Dozen is freakin' long for a ragtag-bunch-o-misfits-action-caper.
― ice cr?m paint job (milo z), Monday, 24 August 2009 04:33 (sixteen years ago)
you're right, it's even longer than The Killing of Sister George! R.A. made a lot of long films in the '60s.
― Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Monday, 24 August 2009 04:36 (sixteen years ago)
inglorious basterds is longer than dirty dozen. but not as long as the longest day. that was one long day.
― scott seward, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:38 (sixteen years ago)
not as long as Jeanne Dielman's day.
― Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Monday, 24 August 2009 04:42 (sixteen years ago)
the longest day is even seven minutes longer than the great escape. and that was a really great escape!
― scott seward, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:43 (sixteen years ago)
the sand pebbles beats them all though. handily. now that is a long-ass war movie.
― scott seward, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:47 (sixteen years ago)
Aldrich's best war movie is likely Attack (107 mins)
― Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Monday, 24 August 2009 04:52 (sixteen years ago)
Dirty Dozen: A Poll starring Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, et al
not a very good movie.

Surprised The Dirty Dozen only clocks in at 2:30, for some reason I remembered it as being three hours even.
Favorite wacky war movie is still Kelly's Heroes.
― ice cr?m paint job (milo z), Monday, 24 August 2009 05:03 (sixteen years ago)
i love the great escape, i have seen it so many times on late night tv... one day hungover in budapest we even rented an old dubbed tape of it from a local video store
― 'steen suicide (don't drive it) (s1ocki), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)
Highly reccomended is the bonkers audio commentary on The Dirty Dozen, which features crazy metaphysical beatnick ramblings from Aldrich's letters to the scripwriter and Dale Dye nitpicking every last inaccuracy and anachronism whilst positing the rather dodgy theory that the only reason the movie works is because some of the actors actually were in the army.
