Best to just do a search & check through them!

I use Epicurious all the time, although it may not be the best for the most authentic pizza recipe. It's good for ideas though, or if you need ideas for using up certain ingredients you've got in the fridge. When I'm looking for something very specific, I google using keywords and usually find a website put together by someone with that expertise or background.

www.appetites.us has tons of food links.

I've had not-too-bad luck with All Recipes, but I do recommend reading through the reviews, 'cause they can point you to some of the problems with the measurments and ingredients. Also, the Food Network website isn't too bad, but sometimes the recipes go overboard (the former is basically 'homey' food, the latter is both homey and fancy. Other than that, though, I'd go with Pinkpanther's advice; that's the way I've found some of my more favorite recipes. (Or post here and wait until some of the foodies find your thread and inundate you with recipes and anecdotes.)

In the beginning I used to print out online recipes by the dozen. Now I mainly use cooking sites when I want to find out what a certain ingredient is. Also, Google Image is GREAT if you want to find out what a certain vegetable look slike. (Safer way to purchase them after checking Google Image, otherwise you might come home with a *red coloured and round* aubergine. hah!)

Pizza? Who needs a recipe for that? Once you figure out how to make a dough to your liking, its whatever the hell you want to put on it.

I know who's going to want to contribute to this thread! *laugh*

btw, the site I go to most is the Food Network one, probably because the only times I've needed to look up recipes online have been because I watched something on that channel and thought, "Hm, that looks nice." Mom's accumulated tons of recipes since the late '60s, so there are only a few occasions when I feel I'd need to look up a recipe.

I never actually follow any recipes off the net as such but I do get ideas from a few places, all the food ones on the link list on Pumpkin for example, also ukfood like Joe pointed out above and the BBc site is excellent.

rec.food.recipes has an insane amount of recipes, but for some reason Google has dropped it?!

And lots of archived Nigel Slater recipes on the Observer site.

(We just got an ice cream maker and he has some good sorbets mmm.)

I'm with chris, unless its for a cake recipes are merely guidelines to be half remembered.

>unless you actually like want things to taste as nice twice in a row or something similarly mentalist

Unless you are cooking for a restaurant there is no need to make a dish exactly the same every time. And if you cook enough you will gain enough knowledge to properly balance ingredients w/o exact measurement.

I think I've pulled a grand total of four recipes from websites ... one for a dump cake (don't ask) and one for a seafood lasagne that I promptly modified and one for almond cookies and one for ... hmmm ... oh, a garlic baked chicken. But I was thrilled when I was able to search on how to blanch almonds and discovered how ridiculously easy the process is.

i use epicurious too sometimes ('as a guideline', as i hate following recipes verbatim) but make sure to read all the reviews underneath the recipe before you make something! they'll often suggest better substitutions and corrections. plus sometimes they're pretty funny
