Easiest program to use to make "mash-ups" as the American media has chosen to call them

I, like 1,000,000,000 other people out there, want to make my own "mash-ups." What's the easiest program to use, and is there any easy way to get a capellas?

I thought the Brits called 'em "mash-ups" and the Americans confusingly call them "bootlegs"
Anyhow...to answer your question: I tried to make mashups with both Cakewalk and Goldwave, but I don't think the terminal I was doing that on could handle it. Took too long to refresh, and crashed Cakewalk twice. (Though possibly trying to simultaneously store "Psycho Killer", "It Ain't Illegal Yet" and samples of Flute Music at the same time was too much for it think about)

I found Acid Pro was pretty handy for doing this. I've done some really nice soulwaxesque mixes in it. Use Soulseek or Kazaa to find acappellas and instrumentals.

Acid Pro is super, super expensive.
I wonder if theres an freeware Acid Pro clone on Freshmeat.
