Someone suggested this, someone suggested it wouldn't do well, I say fooey to that, let's give it a go!

And now, Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, these are the posts that really made us think...

If you keep asking someone questions to which there are no answer, or which they cannot answer or do not know the answer to, then in time they'll come to feel stupid, incapable and useless. If they do offer answers and you ignore them then that makes it worse, especially if they looked for those answers for you for a long time.

(By the way, I'm pretty sure at some point I started a similar thread, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, so whatever)

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you, Nickalicious.

Kate's posts on the If mental illness and creativity go together, as Kay Redfield Jamison and others claim... thread.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

My "yeah hugs" post on Nick S's post was thoroughly serious, btw, I worry I'm too saracastic all the time. I read his question a few times and realised I had nothing to add but lame internet emotional support.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

It was much appreciated, Andrew. Things are not easy right now. I want to fix everything and walk away but I think I'm just going to have to wash my hands of it and having nothing else to do with it.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad. I wish my typing wasn't so awry tonight, tho

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(The "someone" in Nick's original post: Me! The other "someone"? Also me!)

two months pass...
well this was short-lived.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 11 December 2003 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I hate to say "I told ya so"...

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 11 December 2003 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It almost, uh, makes you think.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 11 December 2003 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Like most of ILX. Almost!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 11 December 2003 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I really wish for the revival of this thead, and it continuing and continuing and continuing! (And not just cause I got namechecked here, when I never get namechecked on the LOL thread, honest.)

The last thing that made me really think was the North London Transport Troubles thread, because it made me wonder about the 91, and all those other busses that go up and down my road, wondering where they have come from, and where they go, and the idea of a magically mutating bus which changes route at whim like the 91, and how cool that would be to ride on if you weren't in a hurry or anything.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

My friend took the 91 and had the same problem with the detour. She was laughing because a woman on a mobile was going 'I'm on the 91. We are turning. No, I really don't know where we are going now. It's always a bit of a mystery on the 91 bus'.
Ha ha!

Was the exact post...

Anyway, I am very drunk. That's how I'd recommend giving up smoking. Get drunk and go to a smoky room. Then observe how your arm & even your brain twitches every 15 minutes and says "buy some cigarettes ya philistine and have them behind a curtain" and "if you do not smoke it will ruin your handwriting", and it is crazy. You say to your arm & brain, "is this true? do you want a fag for each of you?" & they don't & nor do you. Funny, but they ask again soon after & so, you are forced to resist soon quite sincerely. There emerges the comparison to being on the opposite end of the lead to the spaniel. Still close to seven hours, in which time I could've been to Norway and back and back and back and back to Norway again.

I've namechecked you in the LOL threads Kate - for that crack about Steve Kilbey's penchant for bad puns - being entranced by a sign that said 'Entrance'. That was you wasn't it?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I had never read that EK post before

is he still around?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

I have no recollection of that EK post. I think he's still around. He was very recently, anyway. That's not how I gave up smoking.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

anyway, I like it a lot
