Not surprisingly, civil liberties are losing in a major way

Meanwhile, sky blue. It is good to hear more specifics, though. Most of the defenders of the whole Patriot Act shebang don't even acknowledge -- at least in this article -- that mistakes can be made or that some tactics backfire, and that's extremely sad, really. Obvious, of course, but still.

This article about the American Library Association and the Patriot Act made me laugh.

I keep waiting for one of those guys to be arrested on something trumped up. I'd be amused.

In other news, FBI change motto to "All your base are belong to us"

Does this sound like the United States, or does this sound like 1950s Russia?" asked Tim Armstrong, a 56-year-old Vietnam War veteran and ad salesman for a radio station in Juneau, Alaska, where citizens are banding together against the federal government's new efforts.

Can't win: "We rule you in the name of protection" vs. the home grown militia.

that article smacks of people wanting to make themselves into martyrs for the cause. john ashcroft is out to get me!

i'd be surprised if any of the personal claims have any validity. most of the provisions in the patriot act were already on the books, it more or less collated them under one piece of legislation. the nonsense about the scuba diving list is odd, so the government knows 10 million people went scuba diving was anyone arrested for it? are they not meant to look at the list to find names of known terrorists? i guess not. the notion that america is less free now than it was before 9/11 is false, i'd like to hear anyone give an example of their rights being suppressed. funny to hear liberman and edwards rail agains the patriot act since they voted for it.

The Patriot act is recontextualizing the meaning of 'conservative'! You are all misunderstanding it terribly!
