"Following second-place Wyoming in the voting, in order, were Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Maine, Vermont, Delaware, South Dakota and North Dakota."

I really don't have anything to add to this. It's kind of like someone compiled a list of the top ten states I would never move to, only substituting Vermont, Maine and Delaware for Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas.

It makes me cry with pride and joy seeing such uniformity and interdependence amongst our most independent thinkers in the country. *sniff*

When I was visiting my mother and brother in NH last year, there was something in the paper about NH being in the running for this. It seems very strange to me given the changes in NH politics and tax structure of the last five-six years -- the state is becoming more "liberal" (or at least the taxes are going in ways the conservatives don't like) out of necessity because the school system got fucked up. Granted, that's causing a stir that could create a lot of Libertarian sympathies, but there's not a lot to be done about it -- the state constitution they adore so much is the cause of it!

(Schools in NH have always been funded by local property taxes, since there was no sales or income tax; the state supreme court ruled this was unconstitutional since a growing number of schools were failing to meet accreditation requirements because the properties in their districts weren't valued high enough to generate the necessary revenue; all hell broke, and continues to break, loose. This will probably be a dominant factor in New Hampshire state politics for the next decade.)

no offense to libertarians, but they're like the scientologists of politics

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

um, no offense to scientologists either

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

John Travolta for Governor!

(I can't see "scientologists" anymore without thinking "Phenomenon." Yeah, even before I think of Battlefield Earth.)

I always think of those Pier One ads with Kirstie Alley

Oh God, don't ever trade heads with me.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

um, no offense to you Jim, but fuck off. For the Libertarian comment.

The only thing rarer than me around here would be a Scientologist.

The Guardian article on this story mentioned that one of the libertarians' proposed policies is the full privatisation of the school system.

unfortunately their view of libertarianism doesn't involve the reforming of the school system on a ground up basis to suit the needs of the community and the children being educated.

This form of libertarianism is just an excuse for corporations and the rich to run rampant.

Wouldn't the true libertarian solution be to privatize all parking and charge for it?

I mean, this sort of nonsense happens at college all over during parties and sporting events, but part of me also wants to say "leave it to the good libertarians of Keene to fuck up a pumpkin fest this bad".

The Libertarian Party of NH has made some startling discoveries regarding both Ukraine and the Uyghur genocide

I just looked at their timeline for the first time in a few years and they’ve actually cleaned it up, e.g., no crypto or dispensary ads. Way less free speech audit videos too. #FakeAndGay
