Slow, heavily armoured mechs with devastating weapons...
or
Fast, Sleek death reptiles with their quick flurries of blades and rocket darts?

Who will prevail!?

Skarrj really freaked me out as they were revealed in that first Unreal level.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Strog, for sure.
Explain.

Geekiest thread ever.
Nope. This One and This One are the ones to beat in the "geekiest" category. (and, yes, I'm the one that initiated the Vampire one.)

strogg, b/c the female strog monster emits an orgasm-ish noise when she fires a rox0r3t at you! Plus, all the little moves they do are great - the blood-sucking dog scratching its ear etc etc. the skarrj are more badass tho'. I actually got ph34r playing unreal a coupla times. otoh the strogg are better-designed (as seen in thee pic, above) drone drone drone blah/blah/blah. The revenant from "doom" is a harder m/f than any of these though. As is the FUCKING BASTARD HEADCRAB from half-life.

Aliens Vs Predator 2, Jedi Knight 2, System Shock, cheat cheat cheat.

Okay. Strog took like a MILLION fucking missiles to kill,
Ever tried to kill a Titan in Unreal at the highest difficulty level? You'll run out of ammo long before you are forced to run away.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 3 October 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Omicron, word up.

It looks to be a pretty good season for PC gaming coming up:

Half-Life 2 Source Code Stolen
Gabe Newell confirms.
-
http://pc.ign.com/articles/452/452844p1.html
-
October 02, 2003 - Gabe Newell, Head of Valve Software, creators of the Half-Life franchise, confirmed today that the apparent Half-Life 2 source code leaked today to the Internet is indeed not a hoax, or just a leaked HL2 SDK (Software Developer Kit) which would contain only tools, documentation and some sample code. Valve was able to determine that the code was apparently stolen by someone hacking into their email system and installing keystroke recorders on some systems through an apparent buffer overflow in Outlook's preview pane.

Mr. Newell adds, "What I'd appreciate is the assistance of the community in tracking this down. I have a special email address for people to send information to, helpvalve@valvesoftware.com.

If you have information about the denial of service attacks or the infiltration of our network, please send the details...We at Valve have always thought of ourselves as being part of a community, and I can't imagine a better group of people to help us take care of these problems than this community."

more reasons not to use Outlook, too, i guess.

It is unclear at this moment how the leak will affect the release of the game, and no suspects have been named.-- Tom McNamara

oops. that "more reasons not to use Outlook, too, i guess" is my line.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 3 October 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I heard about that source-code leak. But really, big deal, I think. Everyone comes out a winner from this one year from now. Valve will still make tons of money on the game, and us end-users will have some mods sooner.

calstars (calstars), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno. as my buddy put it, "Basically, there's nothing to prevent major major major cheating now for the lifetime of the game."

and certain mod folks already have the code. Valve wanted mods to be available about the same time as the game was supposed to launch(about 2 days ago, dammit).

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
Strogg in Quake 4 are a bunch of fuckin' pussies. Fuck 'em.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

the "stroggification" scene in quake 4 is kinda neat, tho

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that was entertainingly gross, as were all the machines incorporating bits of people. That 4-legged walker thing was pretty tough to defeat a couple of times. I couldn't believe how easy it was to take down the makron at the end, though! So lame.
