If Ring around the Rosie is a corruption of Ring o' Roses then it's about the bubonic plague. "rosie/es" refers to the sores whch would erupt on a victim's skin. I've always found that nursery rhyme utterly chilling.

Same, but it's also hilarious when you sing it with all the words starting with the same consonant, eg "ba bing ba bing ba bosies, ba bocket bull bov bosies, ba-bishoo, ba-bishoo, be ball ball bown" - best if y're a child and esp when also jumping on a trampoline with other kids. (by the way there're of course diff versions, the words I used here = "a ring a ring o' rosies, a pocket full of posies, [...can't remember what lines we used here...], a-tish-oo, a-tish-oo, WE ALL FALL DOWN"
