Am I allergic to alcohol?

Pretty much every time I drink I get sick.. like not throwing up once or twice but for 6 or seven hours straight usually about 2 hours after i stopped drinking
it's not food but a really bitter tasting substance which i've assumed in the past was either bile or alcohol, it's happened when i've drunk beer, bacardi breezers (yes, i know, i was seventeen)
and most recently tequila, which is nobody's friend.
i have had one or two times where i've just had a straight hangover i.e. lying on the ground waiting for the world to stop revolving and just being normally sick, i think the normal hangovers were beer and vodka.
so is it something i can drink my way through? like ian thorpe overcoming his allergy to chlorine? or is it something i have to live with?
IT is frustrating cause most of my compadres essentially use alcohol as their only socialising tool and i tend to feel like a bit of a fuckwit sipping on my soda water. I'm also a bit shy and alcohol makes me a fair amount more relaxed.
Yeah.

Try pot instead.

I sometimes get that Nellie - it is bile, its foul and I hate it. I only get it the next day tho, and only if I drink wine and LOTs of it - I assume it is the renal system (kidneys and gall bladder) going mental thinking the body is poisoned. If youre getting that after only a few hours, that doesn't sound good! I guess it also depends how much youre drinking. If a lot, try less and see if you dont puke?

Yeah- I spose.. thanks for the advice, it's never been over one or two drinks so i spose I'll have to keep it as that but trying drinking on a more regular basis *shrugs* oh well, worth a try.

I would suggest contacting Richard E Grant through his agent. There might be a support group or something.

When you drink and become more outgoing are you truly being yourself.I found that I do not need alcohol to enjoy myself and I dont have to be concerned about what I may have done. I dont drink and I am loving the experience of growing to become who I am.

"I found that I do not need alcohol to enjoy myself and I dont have to be concerned about what I may have done"

And I've found that I don't need to go to the cinema to have a good time, but I still enjoy doing that when I feel like it. Ditto drinking.

And if you feel an idiot drinking soda water whilst socialising, you can always tell your workmates you're an ex-alcoholic I suppose.

lupine lupin (lupinelupin), Saturday, 4 October 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

But also throw in that you're an ex-junkie. Just kinda hint at it... "Yeah, I used to be into lots of things, but I had to clean up." Gives you an aura of mystery.

you should just drink tons of caffeine before you go out and you'll be all crazy and wired and bouncing off the walls and totally social

(maybe that's just me?)

"and most recently tequila, which is nobody's friend."

It fucking lied to me!!!

guh, has anyone eaten the worm? isn't meant to make you hallucinate?

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 6 October 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Decent tequila shouldn't actually come with a worm, but either way, no ... it's just a worm :)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 October 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

You hallucinate because you got to the bottom of the bottle, not because you ate the worm.

Brilliant idea. But play it to a slow, yet fiery, crescendo. When you mention that you don't drink, do it in a low, noncommittal whisper. "Yeah, I used to be into a lot of things...now, I just rely on..." trail off in a still quiet, panic-stricken voice, get a wild look in your eyes, and then start screaming, as loudly as possible, while pawing at your purse, "Where's my spike? Where's my goddam spike?"

You'll always be invited back.

try different kinds of alcohol, e.g. wine, vodka, port, sake, etc. maybe it's a particular base substance that you have problems with.
