Sonny and Cher albums were an early experiment in mind-control that tended to fail by the middle of the second track. Skottie appears to be an unusually receptive candidate... or his albums have a skip in the first track.

....Must destroy secret plans....

I really think there's an amazing vibe. Cher has this out of control voice, Sonny's is even further out there, but they have a really catchy pop sensibility. "A Cowboy's Work is Never Done"....klassik

Well, I certainly agree with you, Skottie.

how similar are sonny and cher albums to lee hazelwood and nancy sinatra? i love love love nancy and lee, but have never listened to sonny and cher. i'd always assumed they were kinda similar (maybe sans the amazing songwriting skills of hazelwood)

Well, you pretty much nailed it, I think, Jason. Except Cher was an incredible (if incredibly mannered) singer back then. Nancy was just sort of feisty and sassy and all that, you know. Not really quite so overwhelming a presence. Though I love her, don't get me wrong! Also, Sonny was never a very convincing rebel/outsider type, unlike Lee.

There's a 2 CD Dutch compilation called The Singles + that has all the best Sonny & Cher stuff (60s & 70s) plus Cher's brilliant string of solo singles (pre-Allman & Woman/Black Rose/Geffen-era, that is). I'd get that, it seems to have everything you need. Though the Vegas live albums are interesting artifacts. Then again, you could probably find most of their albums in thrift shops for a buck.
