The new entry into the crowded "things you can buy next to the cash register" market is oats & caramel & peanuts covered with chocolate, and immediately raises the suspicion that it's a dumping ground for Snickers That Go Wrong. A separate conveyor belt coming out of the quality control machine melts the defective bars down, adds some oats, and voila! A flapjack is born.

So, what other comestibles are to the food industry what ashtrays are to pottery?

(see also cheezums/monster munch/etc which have stayed at 20p for the last five years, indicating strongly that they're a byproduct of a different industrial process (in the case of cheezums, not necessarily one related to the food industry))
