Californians - I am getting ready to mock you

I look forward to your state becoming the laughing stock of the world should you elect Arnold Schwarzeneger as your Governor.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Arnold Gropeaneger

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That is his new name! Or Arnold Gropesalot Schwartzeneger.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Two 'g's, people. It helps not to look stupid when you set out to mock.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, spelling Shwazenburger wrong makes you look like a right tosser huh.

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

When I said before I wanted Arnold to win, I was joking! I never would have said that in a million years if I believed it possible that people would be gullible enough to actually vote for him.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the groping stuff that's winning him the election - this will get flamed but, come on, there are bigger reasons for this lunk not to be made governor than the fact he's fondled people who, until now, never said a word, still less took legal action. Is that a wack thing to say?
Otherwise it's like: it was okay that Arnie was running for governor - until the groping thing. Feel me?

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not mocking, I really couldn't care whether the guy wins or not, that was purely for my amusement!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Like you really need ARNIE to justify mocking the state?

kate (kate), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

He is way more embarassing than Jesse "the Mind" Ventura or even Gopher from Love Boat.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

...who both had records locally for public service/office-holding before going statewide. Jesse V was the mayor for a big working-class suburb in Minneapolis before running for governor. Minnesotans would not elect someone who couldn't demonstrate that!

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, we may be entering a very weird time in our history, but California is still the greatest state of all time ever, so all of you jealous harpies can shut up or BE TERMINATED

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Conan the Governor has dealt a blow to reality from which it may never recover. Seriously, WTF? I know this is old news but imagine going back in time and explaining to someone that Arnold is going to be governor and Twisted Sister is campaigning for him. And then you start terminating future resistance commanders while they are reeling from the mind fuck.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

At least he can never be president.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone else remember the Bonzo Goes To Washington jokes when Ronald Reagan ran for California governer? Who's laughing now?

(At least Arnie can never be president, since he was not born in the US. Is he aware of that?)

kate (kate), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

he can be senator though, he's definitely been touted for that.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope someone'll take a pin and deflate him before that happens

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That implies he is filled with air instead of flab.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is he running on the Republican ticket? He married a Kennedy, didn't he? (Are Republicans the new Democrats? Are Lib Dems the new Tories? I'm so confused...)

kate (kate), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Black humor, folks. The whole recall was black humor and the punchline is about to be delivered.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

TO MY HEAD.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is Gary Coleman from Diff'rent Strokes so far behind in the polls?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Black humor, folks. The whole recall was black humor and the punchline is about to be delivered.

So this was just some reality TV show gone horribly, horribly wrong?

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I talked to a guy who works at the Home Depot near Culver City who said that Gary Coleman has a habit of coming in there and taking hardware tool items and tearing the price tags off of them and taking them to the return counter to try to get some $ by claiming he "lost his receipt" - he's supposedly done this multiple times!!! Bad Gary!!! Even though I'm curious to learn what his budget/deficit plans were gonna be..

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually wish Angelyne would have won just so we could finally SEE HER ENTIRE FACE

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

(At least Arnie can never be president, since he was not born in the US. Is he aware of that?)

the constitution can be changed. they only brought in the two-term limit in the 1940s so it's not like it goes back to the founding fathers or anything.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The requirement that the President be a natural-born US citizen DOES go back to the founding fathers - it was in the original Constitution (see Article II, Section 1, Clause 5). Of course, that doesn't mean that it still couldn't be changed.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha I like how my last post already assumes there's a winner. I'm not counting you out Angelyne, sorry!!!

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT, ANYMOOOOOOOORE

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i so need to hear that at Club Freaky Trigger tomorrow night - request goin out to the DJ seen

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think this is the last time something this odd will happen in the U.S. i think having celebrities running for political office will certainly become the greatest extention of the celebrity endorsement for non-celebrity candidates.. make the candidate the celebrity!

in the same way that George Foreman "became" the grill, you can have the Ben Affleck Governor or the Harvey Keitel Senator.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

or the Steve Buscemi Treasurer

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sen. Lieberman: "Wow, this no-call list initiative is groundbreaking work, never have the two parties worked together so confidently on passing a piece of legislation."

Sen. Keitel: "Let's not go sucking each other's dicks just yet Joe."

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Nickalicious I kiss thee.

So this was just some reality TV show gone horribly, horribly wrong?

You watched it on TV, didn't yer?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually wish Angelyne would have won just so we could finally SEE HER ENTIRE FACE

Surely that would be the 7th sign?

There are some things too horrible to even contemplate. This is one of them.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The requirement that the President be a natural-born US citizen DOES go back to the founding fathers - it was in the original Constitution (see Article II, Section 1, Clause 5). Of course, that doesn't mean that it still couldn't be changed.

sorry... I come from an alternate universe where Arnie has been President for two terms already and is seeking an amendment to run for a third. that was the rule I was thinking of, not the one that is actually relevant here on Earth 1.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually wish Angelyne would have won just so we could finally SEE HER ENTIRE FACE

It shall never happen. She would have to reassemble it first, and several of the remnants were lost in her last move when the jar broke.

Aimless, Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it's such an exciting time to have just moved to California. It's like a non-stop street party. I can't wait until the next recall!

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

on the bright side McClintock has no chance of winning even if the recall passes (and I don't think it will). Schwartzenegger is a puppet and at least he has Warren Buffet as an advisor so maybe it wouldn't be the end of the universe. As far ask kate's question goes: Schwartzenegger has always been a Republican albeit a moderate one, maria shriver is suffering dementia from having not eaten solid for seven or eight years. The worst hell would be to suffer through 2 and a half years of Terminator one-liners. And if he loses I do not want to hear him say "I'll be back" because I might groan myself to death.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it's such an exciting time to have just moved to California. It's like a non-stop street party. I can't wait until the next
recall!

Same time, next October?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

If Arnold wins I'm becoming to walk away from irony and absurdity completely and become an architect that only does modernist skyscrapers because the whole thing crosses some kind of line, and I rarely draw lines. Also, should he win I'll be moving to NYC.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

If Arnold wins, we should all follow Spencer's lead and engage in brutal acts of guerilla grammar. ;-)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Abandoning the state doesn't sound like the plan for me. Now, if he says something like there are too employees in the UC system and they should all be canned, I might reconsider.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

the stories about his supporters physically roughing up people on the other side -- nuns, candidates, you name it -- are making me ill. is this a prelude to 2004? why is no one making noise about it, when that wellstone memorial service got so much coverage? is thuggery okay, because it comes along with catchy trailer-phrases?

and let's not even mention the other pieces, like the washington post story where some 22-year-old chirpy said that arnold can 'grope me anytime!' i swear to god i can't believe these people actually exist, just like when i read the letters mark morford excerpts in his morning call newsletter.

ugh.

maura (maura), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow! What the hell was I talking about???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, should he win I'll be moving to NYC.

Bloomberg is hardly a better option, Chow.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

My rambling post sounds like I just did an eightball or something - Jesus.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Now, if he says something like there are too employees in the UC system and they should all be canned, I might reconsider

You're assuming that he'll care enough to want thousands of irate UC employees hungry for his head? Rule# 1001: "Don't offend a large group of constituents to their faces..."

Gary Coleman Ind 12,683 0.2
Mary Cook Ind 10,110 0.2

This is kind of interesting too (Cook is the porn star). They each finished in the top 10%.

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm actually surprised Flynt didn't get more votes

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

christ isnt this just the drizzling shits. i hope california falls into the sea real soon. except that would pollute the shit out of the entire pacific ocean i guess.

duane, Thursday, 9 October 2003 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

France was kinda amusing in the same way when they had to wake up at the last minute before they almost gave it to Le Pen.

this is nonsense - there was no sense in which Le Pen almost won that election. Chirac flattened him in in a landslide victory.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 9 October 2003 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Davis is probably relieved to not be governor any more. "You want to captain this sinking ship? Good fucking luck, sucker."

What Arnie spends on one pair of shoes could prolly feed 500 families for a month. He'll forget his campaign promises, once the novelty wears off, and the daily rot settles back in.
