And where can I get it?

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I also hear that Snapple channels a fraction of its profits to the KKK.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What do you all think of Sprite "remix"? Sickly, isn't it?

I feel I might be missing out on iced tea, though.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 06:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't drunk Snapple since I heard they donate money to the drug war.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't drunk Snapple since I realized that it was Kool-Aid with better marketing

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Blue slush puppy rules!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Blueberry lassi. Unfortunately I've only ever had it in Thailand

chris (chris), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Water.

Slightly chilled, no ice, no bubbles, and I'm partial to NYC tap water in particular. (After it's turned from cloudy to clear, of course.)

kate (kate), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Iced Tea or Ahhhsss-tea if you're from the South
In a half gallon glass/silver/crockery pitcher place
--6 Lipton tea bags
--A lemon, quartered (and squeezed into said pitcher)
--4/5 springs of mint (spearmint, not peppermint)

Pour in 1/4 pitcher boiling water over the above
Allow to steep 15 minutes
Fish out the detritus, and throw it away (or put it in your pocket for good luck, but DON'T tell anyone)
Fill up the pitcher with cold water

Serving iced tea:
Fill a large glass with ice. Full of ice, not just a little bit. Coarsely crushed ice is even better. Pour in the tea. Add sugar if you like.

Very refreshing.
Leave out the mint/lemon if you want to, but why would you want to?

from the "How do I make tea/coffee?" thread of a few months ago

Skottie, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Orange Julius.
Though I seem to remember Luna telling me of a even tastier version/brand of that type of drink.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I just have a moan about Lipton Iced Tea. (Thank god at last someone has started selling Iced Tea commercially properly in this country.) No, not the Ice v Iced or the rub ad campaign, it's this "trial price" nonsense. Maybe someone in retail marketing can put me straight on this.

The standard bottle is somewhere around 80p to UKP1.30 depending on ponce-value of shop, however I have been (until last week) able to get it at 49p at the place across the street from work. Which is about right price to feed my addiction.

Is the 49p a loss maker? It can't be that they're testing the tipping-point consumer-boom at a lower price cos it's only available like this in a few outlets. WHAT'S GOING ON. Make it cheap, churn it out (I mean it's only sugar and water really, why so pricey?) FEED MY ICED TEA HUNGER

(Sorry FT for not thinking this through and BLOGging IT)

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a loss leader yes, get it in cheap to start off with for a trial period and then after a set amount of time (usually when promo budget = spent) then it will not be supported by the supplier anymore and thus price will go to correct price point at store. Hopefully enough people will have tried it and liked it for it to sustain margin at the higher price.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm. on the road trip i discovered that many shell stations out west have slush puppies. i actually prefer to combine all the flavors. when they have the 'old school' machines, where you squirt the flavor concentrate first and then add the slush, i do about 5 squirts of each flavor. it rocks.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Irn-Bru. Scotland. Tracer OTM.

Are you still in Britain, Tracer?

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

he is, till next year at least.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha ok.

Is he (are you) coming to Scotland?

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you not coming down for TomFest?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I would vote for real iced tea (made from tea bags, not that weird powder or the prebottled nasty stuff), preferably unsweetened, or ruby red grapefruit juice.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

tastiest: beer
most refreshing: water

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

San Pellegrino's chinotto (italian soft drink) with ice and lemon. My homemade lemonade. And I fully support that homemade iced tea recipe too... mmm. I have also made it using a peppermint teabag if fresh mint isn't around.

elisabeth k, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Tamarind juice. Though not the Goya version, which is little more than corn syrup in a can.

ebonyorgasm, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Salted yak's milk.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

If'n yr going to make Southern-style iced tea, the best way is to put the tea bags & lemon slices in COLD water in a gigantic glass jug and leave it sitting in direct sunlight for something like 3 hours...aka "sun tea".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Fresca. But the markets hardly carry it. And the ones that do sell out immediately because of me and some other rabid Fresca addict.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Now - there's an ad on UK TV for a new energy drink that is...
water!

But, like, wetter. I'm not making this up - anyone out there tried it?

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Fresca. But the markets hardly carry it. And the ones that do sell out immediately because of me and some other rabid Fresca addict.

If you can afford a plane ticket over here to TX, I've got some Fresca in the fridge at the present moment. Seeing as though I'm going through a "I'm only drinking water and iced tea" kick at the moment, you'd be welcome to my share of the Fresca madness. (Normally, though, I'd be battling you for it -- I love Fresca, too!)

Yes Folks, She Couldn't Stay Away For Long, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Friskeys!! It's the blended perfection of Fresca and whiskey.

Charlie Rose (Charlie Rose), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Fresca and Gin is good. Fresca and Vodka is good. Fresca is the lost great drink mixer. They should market it that way.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate is spot on. Water is the best drink in the world. I also like peppermint tea.

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Really good lemonade (never bother with bottled; corn syrup is the devil's semen)
Just-squeezed orange juice
And of course, Kate is dead right on water (although I prefer that tap water be filtered to get rid of the chlorine)

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

b-b-but the chlorine gives it character!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ting, the Jamaican soda, has my vote for non-alc refresher.
For the tipplers, try a French 75:

1.5 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
2 oz gin

shake, strain into a highball glass, and top up with champagne.

antexit (antexit), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, i've never had a highball glass :(

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

How can a water filter get rid of chlorine? Surely a filter can only get rid of physical particles? Wouldn't you have to set up a distillation or something?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

chilled Martini Bianco!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Having a Grape Crush for an extended period of time in your guts: C/D?

Sprite Remix is a close second.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

tasty and refreshing = "dong lai cha" = hong kong style milk tea served cold from my favorite secret spot in china town. the japanese version of this "royal milk tea" is also heavenly.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd probably have to say beer as well, with iced cappuccino a close second (not that sickly sweet frappuccino shit, but real cappuccino over ice).

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

thai(/vietnamese?) iced coffee with the sweetened condensed milk is also great.

But nothing beats a good strong beer, cold in the glass.

has anyone said Ting yet? that's my new favorite. grapefruit soda from Jamaica. yuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy. kinda like bitter lemon but with more tang. or ting. one or the other.

scott seward, Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

another vote for water. I had the glaceau smartwater once and found it very good but I was also vaguely ashamed at how weird the marketing is, y'know

eegee's wins for non-water drink, or a cold tasty beer. Or maybe real jamaican ginger beer, now that I've crossposted with scott.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Pineapple juice with crushed ice.

Vernor's.

violet red (violet red), Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Mojito. Though Kate is also OTM about NYC water; Tracer so far off the money he's out panhandling and only getting dirty looks no matter how furiously he tapdances.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I vote cranberry juice too, as well as Lipton Peach Iced Tea. I don't like iced tea as a rule (good well made hot tea is so much better) but damn, that peach stuff is thirst quenching. I hate sweet fizzy drinks, so the fresh, sour ones like cranberry are the way to go.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hansen's
Natural Sodas

I've only had Orange Creme, which tastes like a liquid dreamsicle. I wanna try Sasparilla while rocking in a chair on my veranda and noting how things ain't what they used to be.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I suck. The only beverages I can stand are water, alcohol mixed with water, and grapefruit juice, which I will only choke down if I'm sick.

signed,
the horrible grinch

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Iced tea (now in my fridge)!

But, oooooh, Ting -- haven't had that in ages. Wonder where I could find it in Seattle?

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sobe green tea (cold)
guarana soda

ron (ron), Thursday, 9 October 2003 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Goose Island orange cream soda is really good. But that's a local thing.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 9 October 2003 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Evian water. I drink about 3 liters a day.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 9 October 2003 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know about y'all, but I sure as hell don't drink beer for the taste of it.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 9 October 2003 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I exaggurate my taste for cheap beer for comic effect. But I do drink some beer for the taste of it... hell yes I do. Belgian beer, for starters.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 9 October 2003 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm totally with you on the Belgian beer, but would it taste as good if it didn't fuck you up, like ever ie you didn't have the positive associations with drunkenness? Would you drink non-alcoholic Belgian beer?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 9 October 2003 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

No. That would be stupid. But good-tasting beer is the kind you can have one of on any given afternoon, whereas cheap beer is useless if you don't have four.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 9 October 2003 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

has anyone said Ting yet? that's my new favorite. grapefruit soda from Jamaica

Actually it's called "Thing." It's just that in Jamaica and Ireland, it sounds like "Ting"

Ha ha ha ha ha

Skottie, Thursday, 9 October 2003 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

My friend was having lunch in a bar wondering why they don't make nice-tasting non-alcoholic beers, because he would so love something that tasted like Belgian Beer at lunch. He then came up with the idea of bringing a six-pack of non-alcoholic beer into work and grimly making his way through them over the course of the day. Possibly bumming cigarettes off co-workers.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 October 2003 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You can't make a great tasting non-alc beer, esp. anything of the belgian style which gets a lot of its distinct flavour from esters produced by the yeast during fermentaion. Weak fermentaion = weak flavour.

fletrejet, Thursday, 9 October 2003 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Iced jasmine tea with LOTS of ice.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 9 October 2003 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't exaggerate. I prefer the taste of Lone Star over all other beers. I just don't drink that much beer anymore. I blame the meds.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 10 October 2003 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaron OTM on the thai iced coffee. There's a thai place about a mile from my house I go to about once a week just for a cup of iced coffee, which I have no choice but to down in three swigs due to the overwhelming tastiness of it.

I'm kinda amazed at this, but one of the best (tasting) beers I know of right now is brewed right here in Lex Vegas, which be Kentucky Ale. It's kinda sweet and really robust and just light enough that it's still kinda hearty...and it's relatively cheap too!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 10 October 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
just wanted to reconfirm my love for Ting the delicious jamaican grapefruit drink. and i also wanted to say that after trying Irish Moss a Jamaican vanilla drink today that that proud island nation should really stick to citrus.

scott seward, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Tne answer:

FRANGELICO!!!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Thug's Passion: Half alize, half hennessey.

Oh wait, that's the tastiest, most powerful drink in the world.

The real answer is coffee & Bailey's, perhaps.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

No no, the REAL refreshing beverage of choice is DR PEPPER. It's the TASTE of ORIGINALITEE.

DR PEPPER PEACE OUT. WORD.

except the machine downstairs do not sell it so I am trying to substitute with Fanta Orange. Gurk.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck that shit, I got like every type of dr. pepper there is here at work but you don't see me drinking it not when there is CAFE BUSTELO OR WHATEVER TO BE DRANKEN.

No actually that's all shit and the answer is whatever drink someone brings me right now, I'm totally dehydrated.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I still appreciate the drinks I previously listed...but without Diet Coke life as I know it would cease to exist.

(I accidentally typed "Diet" as "Dirt": honest typo or Freudian slip?)

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

*brings Ally liter mug of raspberry lambic*

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom I thought you were not twee enough to use the little * indicating nonverbal motion?? Or was that just a military prohibition?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, Diet Vanilla Coke is the only soda I can tolerate these days (and I tolerate the hell out of it).

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone has stolen one from my desk, it is missing! I have looked everywhere, so unless I have gone completely insane someone has taken my diet vanilla coke. Weird.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a snob. I have drunk the milk of paradise. It's particularly refreshing after a big chow-down on honey-dew.

Aimless, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm currently drinking Glenmorangie port wood finish. It has a lot to recommend it.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

water

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Farmers Union Iced Coffee.

Without this beverage my home state of South Australia would cease to exist. This brew rates higher with the blue collar crowd than beer it is so popular and because it is generally not available outside of the state, it has been a major factor in keeping at least some of the natives in their home state.

Farmers Union Iced Coffee is best served with a Curry or Chicken Vilis pie or with Sour Cream and Onion Pringles. Farmers Union Iced Coffee...the breakfast of champions!
