Still pretty green here. The leaves usually just fall off on one very windy day.

Chicago: a few leaves on the ground, no color as of yet. Gorgeous weather though.

Not even close to peak.

All the trees in my yard are still green except for the one the woodpeckers visit most. The leaves on that one have turned yellow and red.

There are leaves all over the deck and back yard, but mostly everything is green.

THis morning on my walk I did see one tree that is already completely bright red. It was gorgeous.

Ormskirk's only woodland is looking pretty gorgeous at the moment.

Still lovely and green over here, though in November I *do* plan a trip out to Lost Maples to check out the foliage. Ooh, the sun's even out in full force here. Yay!

Glasgow is looking great today - bright blue sky and the view over the Campsies from my office window is pretty stunning. Foliage near peak. There's a lovely scarlet tree on Cathedral Street at the moment too (an Acer?)

I live in a town named after trees in a state formerly covered by forests.

i went out on saturday afternoon to take some pictures of the fall for folks and certain ilxors who don't have fall where they live. I'm going to get them developed tonight, so we'll see how they turn out.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 16 October 2003 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

When I took my walk in the park across the street, I found that there were many yellow leaves. I saw maybe a handful of orangey red trees, but for the most part they were yellow.

And I crunched pinecones.

Are the leaves still changing color in early November? (Citysearch recommends visiting some of those places in late September/early October.)

I can accurately report that the leaves in northern vermont have not yet reached their peak. But they're starting to look pretty neat. Give it a week to ten days.

jim wentworth (wench), Sunday, 19 September 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Today was quite warm for mid-Sept. Early in the day the sky was cloudless and deep blue. I rode a trail system SW of town out into Nat'l Forest land. At 7500 ft elevation you could see the scrub oak and aspen groves have started to turn, just a little. The scrub oak goes to yellow, red, and brown. The aspen go to nearly monochromatic yellow/orange eventually, but right now they have gone from deep green to paler green, sometimes with yellow rims around the leaves. Because stands of aspen are often basically clones, all off the same root system, whole hillsides of them change color in lockstep unison. The resulting fall view is much different to the patchworked, multi-color effect you get in other forests. Dark green pine mountainsides, dappled with gold blazes.

There is now enough leaf litter down that the trail crackles as you ride over it. I love fall, though I hate the shortening daylight.

The real high country aspen, above 9000 ft., are usually about over by the end of the third week of September.
