What does it mean exactly when the new hair color says with highlights?

isn't there a display picture of the girl w/highlights on the box? usually instructions have a chart that will show you the outcome depending on how dark/light your hair is.

But there's never a picture of your pillow and all your towels turning blue after you go goth for the season with REALLY black hair that's supposed to be permanent but is still coming off on everything days later. Oh god, must...not...click...on.... Submit...aaaaswshhhgggrrrhhh!~
