Have you left a job in a blaze of glory?

Have you or someone you know left a job in a blaze of glory? I’m writing a piece on spectacular quittings (the word resignation sounds too polite) for the Sydney Morning Herald and I’m after all the anecdotes and stories I can lay my mitts on. My email is dkaufman@access.fairfax.com.au.

I’d sincerely appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks,

Dan Kaufman

Ogod this is an awesome subject. Put up your piece when it's done.

I wish I had a good one for you, but mostly when a job sucks I hang around stealing on the sly and slink out the back rather than blow stuff up and dance naked on the counter. Best I can do is- one time but when my friend quit a shitty book chain job we hauled a trunk load of books out by way of the dumpster. Another one happened way back when I was a teenage bagel cook- WORST job ever. Had to be there at 4:30 AM to start the day's stock- then slave 8 hours with a 10-foot tall rotating rack oven in front and a 100-gallon boiling water vat behind, in 100-degree summer weather. For minimum wage and wearing the stoopidest ever red chef hat, even. Funny enough, one day while I was taking a freezer break for a stolen and well-deserved drink, the oven broke when one of the racks came unhinged and got caught in the gears. The next 2 weeks were great- I had to do back & forth carloads of bagels from another place which allowed for good breaks and loads of free bagels. Finally, one day the 16 year old manager started pushing me around & told me to get on a ladder and scrape dirt from between the cieling tiles, so I walked out. I got the dirtiest look ever when I went to pick up the last check & gave a good middle finger back. So, let's hear more, come on!

hmmm, the best i can do is having been made redundant and told to get out within half an hour (i guess the boss just hated long drawn-out farewell processes) i just put all my stuff in a box then as he disappeared up the stairs having told everyone else in the open plan studio that myself and 2 other guys were leaving today, i yelled out 'FREEEDOM!' in my best Zach De La Rocha voice then ran off to the pub for the rest of the day.

I once left a job without telling anyone I was not coming in the next day. Midweek too. Not exactly 'Quadrophenia'.

i wonder if those employees of that ambulance chasing legal firm who laid them all off via text message actually sent a reply?

one time I shot my boss and then shot myself and everyone else, too, because I think the job was not for me, OK? put it in a fucking paper.

Walked out midway through cleaning this one kitchen singing "WE'RE ON A ROAD TO NOWHERE" completely trashed and weeping.
