Lara (Lara), Sunday, 12 October 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

could go either way. . .I have plenty of fake famous friendster but i also have a handful of real famous friendsters.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 12 October 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

There are profiles for Kathleen Hanna and Janeane Garofalo that seem legit, or at least made by somebody really clever. I'm not familiar with Jonathan Rhys Meyers, so I can't really comment on that profile... It's understated enough to be real, I think.

Prude (Prude), Sunday, 12 October 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Arianna Huffington's is real, apparently (she's mentioned it in her blog, iirc).

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think kathleen hanna is fake. (at least the one i have.)

Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn and the Old 97 members all are real (and my friendsters, woohoo)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Real famous Friendsters would never mention their own movies/music in the Favorites section.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 12 October 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark Robinson and Superchunk (and Yo La Tengo, I think) are in there for reals.

Sam J. (samjeff), Sunday, 12 October 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Real famous Friendsters would never mention their own movies/music in the Favorites section.

oh don't overestimate the humility of celebrities!

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 12 October 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and the K Records guy - Calvin whatsisname.

Sam J. (samjeff), Sunday, 12 October 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

actual famous people don't put press/paparazzi shots up for their photos (if they use a photo at all) and don't exclusively list things they've done for their favorites. people who aren't actually famous but think they are do these things though.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Sunday, 12 October 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i couldn't find arianna's !!!@@

Vic (Vic), Monday, 13 October 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Gerard Cosloy is on there!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 13 October 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Fake celeb friendsters probably aren't any less "real" than other friendsters. Do you see? etc.

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 13 October 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

stuart from mogwai is real, mark eitzel is real, the belle and sebastian Catastrophe profile is real. the dave chappelle profile I saw looked real.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 13 October 2003 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

James McNew looks real.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 13 October 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think kathleen hanna is fake.

So do I. But I have no idea if her profile is real or not.

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 13 October 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

can someone post--not link to-- the dave chappelle profile here?

oops (Oops), Monday, 13 October 2003 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

So do I. But I have no idea if her profile is real or not.

Ned at Martin's place (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 13 October 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I always got a kick out of this 'friend' of mine:
http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=1861005

I'm assuming the Blink 182/Sum41 guys pages are fake. Don't really care anyway. The Dandy Warhols have a page:
http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=1861005
Although it looks like a marketing thing...

Har Mar Superstar's page is real:
http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=385047

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 13 October 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the "duane zarakov" one is fake

unreal or otiose user, Monday, 13 October 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I realized y'all might not be able to access those if I'm not linked to your 'personal network', so add me if ya feel like it (I'm a bit of a rookie Friendsterer):
I use another email for it tho: rob@bolton-in-london.freeserve.co.uk

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 13 October 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Search "Catastrophe Waitress" - unsurprisingly, it's a lovingly-created belle & Sebastian thing...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 13 October 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

FWIW, Sonic Boom, Will Carruthers, Stephen from The Telescopes, Emma from Lush, and Anton from BJM are all real too

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Cody from Step by Step and the Kevin Bacon are most
definitely fake (yet amusing).

(I just signed up on friendster today, and have been wasting the last few hours on it. It's almost as bad as ILX)

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Graham Coxon is as well

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

There's lots of semi-famous (ex)East Bay pop-punkers on there...

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicky Wire is on there.

CRW (CRW), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

IF I WAS A GIRL I WOULD USE THE INTERNET TO TRY TO FUCK THEM

GET TO THA' (PRICE) CHOPPA!!!!!!!! ROFFLE!!!!!!!! (ex machina), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

They're chubby, old drunks. Frank has a blog, though, if you're still interested.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Paz Lenchantin: http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=1502538

Dave Pajo: http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=298877

Joanna Newsom: http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=1101967

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I was suspicious of the graham coxon one being real. Bam Margera was on there (gone now). Peak of my Friendster experience, obv. Not sure if Ryan Dunn is still there or not. Members of Old 97s are but that is probably only of interest to two or three of us.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

well i think the graham one is real. he hasn't got other 'famous' people as his friends, and doesn't write about his music etc

i think i spend too much time on friendster

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

it just seemed very un-graham-like to me to be there at all. However it's been years since I've listened to or spoken to him so what do I know.

Of all the fakesters they busted I'm most sad over the loss of the F-Train. It left the best testimonials and I was able to apologize for the time I puked in it.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of Friendster has anyone else noticed testimonials disappearing? not just ones i wrote or had written about me i notice...weirdness

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I've noticed some people's whole friends-lists disappearing, too.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i never log on to friendster anymore. could be the testimonials were from deleted profiles.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Friendster's real glitchy lately.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"lately"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I got an email saying todd swiss wrote me a testimonial, but it never actually showed up anywhere on my Friendster page.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The Joanna Newsom one claims to be a guy.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

there are intermittent problems with displaying testimonials and friend lists, it must be a database synch problem.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

For awhile, all my testimonials from 2004 had disappeared, but then they came back.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this Friendster bitch worth getting up in?

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

no.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

not anymore. Do Myspace or Tribe instead.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I still like Friendster.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Friendster, despite being laregly broken, is more interesting because it has more people on it. But it's not as good for "community-building" type stuff as Orkut or some of the other ones might be -- there's less interaction on Friendster. And since I don't really care about the interaction factor...

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

now, for me, there's more people on myspace, none of my friends go to friendster anymore really. tribe's getting up there.

(i know i've said this before. i'll stop being a broken record)

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Rah for Friendster still! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not at all that much into that sort of thing, so Friendster is okay with me.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanx for the opinions so far.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Friendster has a much nicer design than Myspace and this is important to me.

I have not heard of this Tribe.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy shit. I think ?uestlove is on myspace now.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

www.tribe.net

Tribe has even better design so you should dig it roxy.

another upside to myspace: you can control elements of design on your profile page via stylesheets (and now they have an interface for doing this on yr blog pages). Unfortunately some people do this with very poor taste.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

oh shit questlove is white! i knew it.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately some people do this with very poor taste.

OTM. Not to mention the browser crashingly overdone pages even.

I still prefer myspace to all the others. Navigable, lots of features, not to mention the whole functioning-correctly-most-of-the-time thing.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i think you should all look at jon williams's myspace profile for someone with a ridiculously overdone page; scrolling images and animated gifs abound. (but what did you expect?)

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

link please

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know it off the top of my head, sucka. I'll get back to you when he comes back from away on AIM.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Larry Tee's on Friendster. So's Tobell von Cartier.

Otis Wheeler (Otis Wheeler), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

So are most of the Scissor Sisters.

Otis Wheeler (Otis Wheeler), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Chip Kidd's a friendster.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

l4rry l1vermore and m4ss giorg1n1 are on friendster for those who know who the funk that is.
