This thread makes me want to get another living room and cover it in baseball posters (at least some of these must be available in posters; I know the Fisk shot is.)
And that Vida Blue Time cover is great! I hadn't seen that before.

I got Bobby Thigpen, Cecil Fielder, Dave Stewart and Bob Welch in their career-years. Even though the rest of my team was mediocre, I won first and $1100. I had a lot more time to devote to statistics and strategy when I was nine.

But at least I was good at it, and made some money (until the fricking Internet made it easy for everyone to be decent at the games).

http://www.ballparkreviews.com/knox/meyer3.jpg
this is Bill Meyer stadium, the place where i learned how to watch baseball. the moiré pattern is the netting behind home plate. the windows just beyond the left-field fence belong to the Standard Knitting Factory. it wasn't too rare that a strong right-handed hitter would send the ball right through the window and onto the factory floor.
Bill Meyer stadium was a few blocks away from the Greyhound station, and eventually the team built a new ballpark 45 minutes outside the city. in my lifetime Bill Meyer stadium was home to the Knoxville White Sox and then the Knoxville Blue Jays. eventually they were called the Tennessee Smokies though the Blue Jays still owned them. it was a real shame about that stadium. most people think that the owners let it get really run-down in order to have an excuse to move it away from the bus station. it was always pretty nasty back inside, under the grandstand. but it was the place where:
* i saw Max Patkin, "the Baseball Clown." websites call him "The Clown Prince of Baseball" but the former appellation's what he signed my baseball with on the night i saw him. he could load up his mouth with Dr. Pepper, press his lips together, and spritz a fine mist of soda droplets into the air, creating an enormous "cloud" that shone under the lights. he wore an old Mets jersey and was the coolest thing i'd ever seen.
* i saw Cecil Fielder (not fat in the minor leagues!!) and Jesse Barfield. Barfield was the finest player we'd ever seen and hit many balls into the Standard Knitting Factory windows. i had one of his broken bats when i was little. i wonder what happened to it.
* i booed Bill Buckner, who'd come on as a hitting coach several years after the '86 Series.
* i - or my father - were almost maimed for life by a line-shot foul ball that we weren't paying attention to. we were sitting one seat apart and it slammed into the seat between us, leaving a huge dent in the wood. we were probably 30 rows back. that seat is probably still there.

Doc Ellis, the best baseball/LSD story. Once he threw one strike, he just held the tracer chute in front of him for the rest of the game to keep it up.
It sounds like an urban legend, but it's not, even though I admit it's kinda weird when you think about what his telephone listing would be (Ellis, D.)
