Don't Hang up

for the last couple of day i have been delighting in this eccentric little radio programme called Don't Hang Up. Something worthy of resonance perhaps. the presenter rings up payphones and tries to get them to tell their life stories but most of all trying to keep them talking. Its one of the most intriguing things that I've heard recently.

Today's edition has been mainly taken up with a call that was answered by a Somali refugee orphan in a launderette. Yesterday's most intriguing recipient was a wino/poet.

ed i havent heard this but continuing in the bad ass radio programmes vein, i wanted to give mad love for a world in your ear. this programme is great! its just little tidbits from world radio. its always on when i dont expect it, ie 8 pm sundays.
also, this dont hang up sounds like it should be in that awful guardian column 'things you dont know if you dont go to work'. i'll never be able to listen to it, it seems, and by rights, neither should you be able to ed! heres hoping anyway....

didn't that horrible bassoon-festooned editing get on yr nerves initially ?
i almost gave up after the first couple of minutes, but it got good once they actually focussed on a punter who engaged in conversation instead of the presenter's fits/starts/giggles and the R4 prog-construction department
(didn't hear it yesterday though)
